I’ve been wearing this vest for over 5 years now, and I can’t praise it enough. It’s super comfortable, warm, fits well, looks good, and has held up nicely. I live in the South where our winters are mild, and I wear this vest almost every day during the winter. Highly recommended.

  2. Genus John (aka: John the cat guy)

This is a well made garment and fits, not baggy with a good collar.I’m returning it for only one reason: it is too lite weight. This is a spring/fall vest. I need a medium weight.

I am not a small guy, at 6’2″ and 250 lbs. I needed a fleece vest for the in-between temps in winter that did not make me look even larger. This vest fits very well, and keeps me at the correct level of warmth (big guys run a bit hot…) while not making me looking like a gray polar bear. Love this fleece vest and would recommend to anyone with a large build. Might not be a good fit for more in-shape guys.

I bought this vest as a “spare” to keep at the office. Here in Southern California, spring and autumn days can feel deceptively warm, only to cool down quickly to 60 F or below after dark. I have a habit of forgetting to bring any outerwear with me to the office, except in winter, and then wishing I had something light to wear for warmth if going straight from the office to a meeting or dinner or other social engagement. In this climate, a fleece vest passes for “outerwear” for all but the three coldest months. I have an older Element Red vest from Columbia, received as a gift many years ago, which has stood the test of time, so I thought I’d order Columbia again.Cost is reasonable for quality and priced perhaps 20-25% less than the famous outfitter from Freeport, Maine charges for its equivalent product. Fabric is soft and comfortable, not scratchy. Detailing is nice with two zip pockets, a collar that may be worn flat or straight up, and a hanger loop—a feature that my old Columbia vest lacks. Fit tends to be a half size larger than usual, so that my Large feels halfway between L and XL. If you want a trim fit, consider one size smaller than you usually order. On the other hand, if you want to layer it over a thermal top or sweater, buy your usual size and you’ll appreciate the fuller than usual cut. Another plus is that it’s offered in a dozen different colors, which again presents more choices than the competitor from Freeport.

The Columbia vest – as well as the Mountain Full Zip – are very nice and comfortable products – which most of the reviews agree with – However, I’m writing this review to talk about sizing – as few reviews actually deal with this very important aspect of any online purchase. So I wish more people would post their height and weight and what size worked well for them. With the vest and the Mountain Full Zip I actually ended up purchasing a medium in both styles – even though I normally wear a large in just about everything else. For the record, I’m six feet tall and weigh 182 pounds – and the mediums fit perfectly.

We purchased this at the end of season sale…what a great deal! Columbia is a great name brand anyway, so why not stock up when they are on clearance on amazon? Oh yea! These fit my very standard size large husband. He is a stout guy, so sometimes things fit a little too snug, but these were right on the money. Perfect fit. We’ve had them now for several years, and they wash up great. He wears them weekly, so once a week washings from October to March…and I am not a gentle laundry handler! These have not disappointed. Go Columbia name brand!!! The black does not attract every little fuzzy thing in the house. I guess that would not be so much the color, but the material. My husband has a NorthFace jacket that is gray/black/navy colored at it is an absolute pain. It attracts everything. It all sticks. NOT SO with this vest! I purchased two…one in grey and one in black. He loves them…and it’s super easy for me to clean! I would highly recommend checking these out. They are perfect for those wintery days where you are in and out. Your back stays warm, you wear long sleeves underneath and you are toasty all day long. They also have really nice ‘hand warmer’ pockets. Perfect location and size to warm your hands up. These look very attractive as well 🙂 My husband is a salesman, so these are a nice, professional look but functional also. I did not receive anything for writing this review, just wanted you to know what a great buy it was! I hope you find it helpful! Let me know if you do!

Big fan of fleece vests. It’s my go to garment every day of the week. When I first get up in the morning I’ll slip one on while my metabolism makes the transition from sleep mode to waking mode and, in the winter, I’ll slip it back on to layer under my down jacket for extra warmth. At work it’ll help keep me warm, but not too warm. I love ’em and own (now) 4. Two are no name, one is a Woolrich and now this Columbia. The Columbia is a thicker fleece than the other three. Make no mistake, it’s not as thick as a fleece jacket, but I’m pleased with its’ thickness. The fit was just a bit snug (I ordered an XXL) but I know it’ll stretch a bit as I wear it,at least until it gets laundered, but it’ll stretch a bit after that, too. The zipper didn’t seem to like to work well out of the package, but I sat down with the vest and ran it up and down a couple of times and now it works great. The hand warmer pockets are nice and deep and extend about half way up to my elbows, so they’ll work nicely, too.Bottom line: Great product, great price at under $30 and I’m looking forward to it’s warmth in the morning and layered under my jacket. Would buy again (and just might in another color) and would recommend it to a friend.Edited 2/22/14Wish I could write a whole new review since this one is buried now. I liked the Navy Blue vest I ordered so much and have worn it daily since late January that I ordered another one. This time around I ordered one in the color Tusk, based on the pictures here. Here the vest looks like a light gray. When I opened the package under incandescent light it looked khaki. When I took it into the kitchen, which has florescent light, it looked light a cross between light gray and khaki. So the color seen isn’t completely true I guess, but it doesn’t really matter to me and I’ll keep the new vest. If it matters to you I’d go with Navy, personally. Not sure what to make of all the hoo-haw about the sizing. “Sized big.” “Sized small.” I can tell you my XXL fit pretty good, although, and this is strictly personal, I’d have like an extra 1/4″ in the body. But that’s a strictly personal preference. It fit great, but I like a little extra room to trap air, and warmth.Like I said earlier, since I got the first one in late December, I’ve worn it every day. It sits downstairs from the bedroom and it’s the first thing I grab when I head downstairs to fix breakfast. I then wear it under my coat as I head into work and wear it at work until things warm up there. Will probably order a third for my 10 year old as he runs hot and won’t wear a proper coat even when Mom and Dad tells him to.

I normally wear a large or XL. I’m 6 feet 210 pounds and prefer my clothes slightly roomy and not skin tight. The XL was a perfect fit. The best is thin and basic with no frills….exactly what I was looking for. I immediately bought a second one I liked it so much. It has 2 large zippered outside pockets and 2 large open inside pockets. I love the fact it doesn’t have the extra material sticking out that goes behind the zipper that always gets stuck when trying to zip it up.

Pull over or zip up fleece are warm around the home or even the office but are bulky at the arms. Often you’ll find yourself putting it on then in a short period your taking it off cause it’s too hot. Vest rather than a full fleece solve that problem allowing your arms to radiate that heat off keeping you at the right temp without the excess bulk. You’ll shortly find that you forget you have it on they’re that comfortable, highly recommend. Quality, it’s a Columbia need I say more. I have several of these as I wear them everyday all day so I need a few to rotate through laundry but they wear very well. Fade?… it doesn’t. I wash them once a week and it launders well with minimal fuss color looks nearly as bright as new. My only complaint to Columbia is a better quality zipper pull. After about a year of hard use the main zipper pull tab breaks off. It’s not the tab that breaks it’s the bridge on the closer that wears out and breaks off the closer. Zipper still works there’s just no way to attach another pull tab. I’ve have 3 do this over the years so it’s a zipper issue not the way I use and care for them.
