10 reviews for Dell P Series 21.5″ Screen LED-Lit Monitor Black (P2219H) Electronics

I have three of these on my desk, and they work perfectly for me. I use them for work. It is exactly as advertised, and super lightweight, without the stands. The stands are great, by the way…as they provide super easy adjustments and angles! (I used two of them before I upgraded to a standing desk, with three monitors)!

I am extremely satisfied with this monitor.I had considered several other models for lower cost, but I am happy that I purchased this model. The supplied stand is fine, but I wanted the lower edge of the monitor to sit about 3/4 inch from the table surface (about where it would be if it were a laptop display) and the supplied stand will only enable positioning so the lower edge is down to about 3 inches, so I am using a different stand I had purchased separately before.Very pleased, I would purchase this model again.

This review is going to be comprehensive (see also: long) so please bear with me. Plenty of real-world application stuff in here too, which would be either helpful or fluff. You be the judge, I guess. (Updated 05/10/20 and 07/06/20 to amend and remove some outdated/extra details)For a while, I have had an old 19″ 1440×900 display on my desk as a second display and a primary for two old computers that currently reside on my desk. Since coming home from university and not having my TV set up to which to connect my consoles, I used that awhile (no HDMI, but I had an HDMI to DVI cable that worked) but I immediately recognized that an upgrade was in order because the colors were meh and the resolution was a bit odd. After some searching, I came across this monitor, and so far (a few months) it has worked well for me. (I have since set up the TV, but I will keep the detail about not immediately having it set up as it pertains to the background.)Let’s start with what I like about this monitor. The 1920×1080 display is a quite common resolution, which is great for most modern consoles that work in 1080p. Also, the 22″ screen size is good for medium desk space; it just fits on my desk. Well, the stand leaves lots of room for stuff around it (it’s nice and small, only about 8 1/4″ wide by 6 3/8″ deep) but in terms of room on my desk, space is limited in both directions, so it’s nice to have a large size that doesn’t hang over the edge too much (the stand is well planted a few inches in either direction from the corner, so don’t worry there. I’m talking more about the screen itself.) The bezels are very small (about 3/16″) on top and to the sides too (bottom is about half an inch, which is still small), so that saves a bit more space in that way (especially coming from a display with larger bezels). There are plenty of display orientation features: 130mm height adjustment, -5 to 21-degree tilt, 45-degree CW and CCW swivel, and 90-degree CW and CCW pivot. These are extremely helpful to me. Because my desk space is limited, being able to have my stand in a manner that I can still fit things around it but be able to see the monitor by swiveling it somewhat is very helpful. I also play some games that are best played in portrait mode and occasionally use chat programs, so being able to pivot the display is helpful for the games so I can get the best experience and the chats so I can see a lot of chat history. Most pivoting monitors only do CW rotation, which is fine for most people, but because I have the monitor on the left side of my desk and the outlet is way off to the right, I need CCW rotation to make the most of my cable length and just have less hassle in my setup. The USB ports are a great addition. For the cost of one extra cable (a USB between your computer and your monitor), you get two extra USB 3.0 ports to the left side and, if you’re willing to go behind your monitor, two USB 2.0 ports. That’s great if you need an extra USB port or three. (Note: to take advantage of USB 3.0 speeds, you have to plug the cable into a USB 3.0 port, which is usually blue.)Of course, this monitor isn’t perfect, but the complaints I have are significantly less.First, though this has HDMI, DisplayPort, and VGA, it comes with a DP cable rather than HDMI. For a while, I didn’t have a computer with DP, so I had to use my spare HDMI cable with it, but I recently built a PC with DP output, so I now have a use for the DP cable and can use my HDMI cable for other things. I can still understand why the lack of a bundled HDMI cable is an issue for some, though, but it isn’t an issue for everyone, so I won’t dock any stars. Also, this may be just me, but the colors seem a tad dull. This is an IPS LCD which provides good viewing angle capability, but the blacks seem a bit…not black, at least compared to my laptop’s display, which I’m pretty sure is also IPS. It’s still not bad, though, and the other colors are also tolerable, so I won’t dock a star. Finally, it doesn’t come with sound, so you would need external speakers if you don’t already have some. This isn’t a huge issue, but it is a bit of extra space taken up, which is not convenient for me given my aforementioned space issues. Not worth docking anything over, but worth noting.Overall, it’s a solid monitor with a lot going for it and not a lot going against it, especially as an upgrade from an older monitor. When I got it, it was $130, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it’s different now. The list price is $210, but you can get it from the Dell Web site for $170 (I thought it was once $200/$150, though… Either I’m mistaken, or maybe COVID-19 increased the price a little). Enter “Dell P2219H” into your favorite search engine and the official Dell listing should be toward the top. It also comes in 23″, 24″, and 27″ screens (P2319H, P2419H, and P2719H, respectively), so if you want something like this but a little larger, they exist, but they do cost a bit more. Definitely worth the list/Dell price, but even better if you were lucky like me and could get it for less.

I have only had this monitor fora short while. I am very pleased with its performance. Right out of the box I was able to hook it up to my laptop via HDMI cable. It also has a Display Port connection for newer computers than mine. Once warmed up and running, I was able to calibrate it with my Spyder Pro. It may not be a $4,000 top of the line Graphics monitor but it is plenty good for adjusting images in Photoshop and getting expected results back from the lab.

There are enough reviews with excellent information, so I’ll just focus on a few items.1. There are lots of good monitors out there, but very few, if any, with stands as fully adjustable as this one. My wife wears eyeglasses with progressive lenses. She finds it helpful to have the monitor positioned low; otherwise, she has to tilt her head up to look through the lower part of her glasses. This monitor slides all the way down to where the bottom is 2″ off the desk. Nothing else comes close. It also tilts more than most monitors — up and down and left to right. As others have said, the stand is rock solid.2. There are four USB ports. The two on the left side of the monitor are 3.0. The two on the bottom are 2.0. Of course, you have to plug the upstream USB cable (which is provided) into a 3.0 port somewhere on your computer in order to get 3.0 performance out of the side ports. If you plug it into a 2.0 port, all four ports will perform as 2.0. I find side ports on the monitor aren’t something I use frequently, but they do come in handy now and then. The ones on the backside (where the power cord and monitor cables plug in) aren’t all that easy to access, but they’re perfect for a mouse or keyboard dongle, freeing up a port on the computer.3. As others have said, the monitor is REALLY bright. I found I needed to turn the brightness down to 45%. That still left it brighter than my previous monitor. I’d rather have too bright than too dim. The power button and adjustment buttons are located on the bottom edge of the monitor on the right side. They take a little getting used to, as the functions change depending on how many times you push each button, but after around 10 mins or so, you’ll get the hang of it. One setting I like is to have the power button light automatically turn off when you’re using the computer.4. It comes with a DisplayPort cable for connecting the monitor to the computer. If you want to connect via HDMI or VGA, be sure to order the appropriate cable when you order your monitor. This is a terrific monitor. I’d buy it again in a heartbeat.

I bought this 21.5″ Dell P series LED monitor as a second monitor to my 24″ Dell P series monitor I bought a couple of months ago. It is my third Dell P LED monitor. All three have great color and brightness and no bad pixels. I appreciate the built in power supply and multiple input options. The monitor’s base/stand is sturdy and heavy and allows a lot of adjustments. It looks and feels high quality. I’m not a techie, but these monitors work well for me and would certainly buy another.

I bought this monitor to use with my laptop and hooked it up today. I already had an HDMI cable and used that to connect them. That, aside from the power cord, is all you need to connect this monitor.I did have an issue with not hearing the exterior speakers I have plugged into the laptop, but fixed that by right-clicking on the speaker icon, choosing Open Sound Settings, and changing the Output to my speakers, rather than the monitor. That was it. I now have sound and a beautiful, crisp display. The stand is one of the best features. It swivels, tilts, and even pivots and is height-adjustable. The circular opening in the post makes for easier organization of the cords. All that, combined with a not too-large monitor, make for a great purchase.

If you’re looking for a small second monitor, you’ve probably noticed that nearly EVERY monitor under 22 inches is a VGA display connection, no HDMI/thunderbolt etc. I bought this because it was the most promising option that actually had HDMI, and it does not disappoint.Incredibly slick looking, high quality, and perfect in vertical or horizontal orientation. Easy to mount to an arm. Good job, Dell.

  9. YeahSoMaybe?

I needed a 2nd monitor for my upstairs system. My requirements were: clear text, good brightness and reasonably good color rendition in a 1080p system. Microsoft Office (esp Word & Excel), YouTube, surfing. This Dell 2219H exceeds my expectations on all fronts.PROS:The picture is stunning. While balance – with no adjustment — is spot on. It’s certainly bright enough. I’m looking right now at a 1080p wallpaper of a mountain lake with windsurfers on a bright blue with clouds day. No banding, no hotspots, no IPS “glow” issues, no stuck pixels. The details in the rocks by the shore leap out at me. I’m using the HDMI port. The bezel on this monitor is non-existent on the top and sides and minimal (.5 inch) at the bottom. Very svelte. The base is sturdy and is VERY adjustable (height, swivel, pivot & tilt). No wobble. They did not cheap out here.Low hassle out of box experience: I was able – start to finish have this installed and working in under 5 minutes. (It came double boxed by the way but I didn’t have to fight a million things to get to the product.) Windows 10 discovered it immediately. I’ve had no need to make adjustments. It was painless.* They give you a plethora of ports (HDMI, Display Port & d-sub VGA) and include cords. (NOTE: I don’t care about the USB jacks on monitors but it’s there if you want it. One of the jacks is USB 3.0).* This monitor looks so good that it makes my circa 2011 1080p Viewsonic 24” monitor (DVI-D interface, TN panel) sitting next to it looks a bit klunky / Fisher-Price. Don’t get me wrong, Viewsonic is an excellent brand and it has served me well, but the difference is so noticeable I will probably buy a 2nd Dell 2219H to replace the older monitor – it’s that good.* The Dell 2219H – visually and physically – hogs very little desk real-estate for it’s display area.CONS:* It’s “only” 1080p. For some people that resolution is a passe commodity. For my purposes I don’t care. This monitor is an example of a perfected ** affordable ** 1080p which still looks damn good. YMMV.* Gamers may or may not find this suitable for their purposes. The specs I find mention 5ms response time. YMMV.* This is the “Honeymoon”. We’ll see about longevity.* I can’t say I have reviewed the picture adjustment controls BECAUSE I HAVEN’T NEEDED TO MAKE ANY! The picture is absolutely perfect. I do own an older, downscale Dell (VGA only) 19” monitor which has worked fine for 3 years. My son owns a Dell U2412 which is still going strong after 4.5 years.I can’t speak to sRGB color gamut. I would be quite happy editing 6MP 1080p JPEGs from my Sony HX-30 camera on this.SUMMARY: Very VERY pleased so far. 5 stars. Value for money, I almost want to give it 6. An excellent, overperforming jack-of-most-trades 1080 monitor. Makes for a slick, affordable dual monitor setup.ADDENDUM: SOME SPECS:Display: 21.5 in, IPS, W-LED, 1920 x 1080 pixels.Viewing angles (H/V): 178 ° / 178 °Brightness: 250 cd/m²Static contrast: 1000 : 1.Refresh rate: 50 Hz – 76 Hz.Aspect ratio: 16:9 (1.778:1)NTSC (1953) color space: 72 %Coating: Anti-Glare/MattePower Consumption 17 Watts.Dimensions: 487.3 x 293.4 x 41.3 mm.VESA mount: YES 100 X 100mmHeight adjustment: 4.72 InchesLandscape/Pivot: YES (90 degrees clockwise or counter)Left/Right swivel: YES 45 degreesForward/Backward TILT: YES 5 degrees forward, 21 degrees backward.Weight: 2.75 kg.———————————————————————————–UPDATE 4 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE: LOVE IT!!! I got one of the used options for $108 but it arrived in about a week and looks brand new. I had an IPS Lenovo monitor from probably 7 years ago and an old TN Asus from 2008 that finally died. When I put this next to my other IPS monitor it looks so much better and crisper even though they are the same resolution. I’m sure part if it is a sliiiightly higher DPI (21.5″ vs 22″ at 1080p), but the matte finish is invisible and, although I hadn’t noticed at all in the last 7 years it affects the picture on my Lenovo. its bright, and after some tweaking looks very good and vivid but still looks accurate. No blacklight bleed either which is nice. Then add in how thin the bezels are and the built in USB hub and I’m a very happy man. I can’t wait for my other one to show up now.YEAR AND HALF UPDATEStill love these monitors. I haven’t touched settings since I’ve calibrated them. They still look brilliant. The USB still work great. Still no bleed, dimming, or dead pixels. Especially since I got them so cheap I’m incredibly pleased with the purchase.
