Was evaluating buying portable DVD players for both kids prior to a long car ride so each could watch what they want. The selection of quality (name brand) DVD players is nonexistent in 2019. All the stuff sold on Amazon is off/unknown brands with a lot of mixed reviews, many 1-star reviews that say they break within the first hour of use or really good 4-5 star reviews that are very generic which makes me question their authenticity. Many descriptions on the products themselves and the reviews doesn’t even match the product listings, so again I question authenticity of the reviews. Really wanted something that would play our already ripped movies but didn’t want to fork over a ton for an iPad. Somehow ended up on this item during the pre-release sale. Buying two included 25% off of both and free Toy Story headphones with each. Could not believe the great value of the Fire 7 Kids Edition. 1-year of FreeTime included which comes with a ton of content (books, games, apps, and streamable tv shows and movies). Also includes the kid proof foam case, and a 2 year replacement deal if it breaks. Took me a few hours to update both with the latest OS updates and setup kid profiles but it was totally worth it. I also had to re-rip our movie collection for stereo audio as the default 5-channel on the rips did not have audio on the tablet as I don’t think the Fire tablet has as great of support for the various codecs out there, but once I got the right settings (stereo 2-channel mp3) Handbreak made that task easy on 20-ish movies. Also had to download and then figure out how allow the “Video Player for Android” on the FreeTime kids app since it appears locally installed video files are not allowed on the FreeTime app itself, but it wasn’t too hard to figure out. I added 32GB micro SD card to each to store the movies. Really great option for travel as there is no changing and scratching dvds every time you need to change a movie. Kids loved every minute of the two days of 4hr car rides. I will say the tablets can be sluggish at times with downloading apps and moving between apps. Movies play great which is really all I was looking for, the other stuff (apps, books, and games) was more bonus stuff IMO. And I will say the battery life could be better. Full charge would be about 50% after 4hrs of using in the car. Device were offline so that might drain quicker if you’re using wifi. And I also don’t think when you put them to sleep that they are very good at conserving battery like an Apple product would. Just make sure you do full changes prior to long car rides.Comments on FreeTime. I love that you can have multiple profiles for each child, and can configure time limits and limit all content and apps. I also love that I can add additional apps to be allowed outside of the ones included with FreeTime. What I find very frustrating is when you are trying to find new apps, games, books, etc inside the app, every time you touch something it downloads it. I know they are trying to make it easy for kids but it just gets ridiculous when they touch 100 different things that don’t open immediately, so they keep touching more items, and they all start downloading at once. I also don’t like that you can’t get a description and screenshots of what the content is from within the FreeTime app. Like if I search for puzzles, mazes, or matching games, it just has a list of the app icon with no outline for parents as to what the app actually is.Also love that the Kids Edition is an Ads Free tablet, so no adds on the lock screen, and could easily be converted to a regular tablet if you want later. The foam case is removable.

We have had these for a week (one for each of our boys). We plan to use them only on our long road trips. So far, we’ve been pleased with the apps, parental controls, etc. I don’t love that YouTube kids is an option as an app. I need to figure out how to remove that specific one.Unless you download a bunch of apps, they need to be connected to WiFi. We used my husband’s hotspot on his iPhone and it worked very well.I haven’t been super impressed with the battery life, but again, my kiddos are using them for long road trips.Great product for the deal price! We got two for $120. We also wanted two blue cases, which you could not do with the deal but I spoke with Amazon customer service and they sent an extra blue case free of charge. Very happy with the service.

Did some research & so glad we took the risk to preordered this tablet. As if the included headphone bundle, 2 year guarentee & 1 year Amazon subscription all for $100 didn’t pay for itself, It’s a great tablet! The case is wonderfully kid proof. It has a squishiness to it so mega protection, but not a solid case that hurts lil toes or hardwood floors when it drops. We haven’t even put on the screen saver yet or memory card because it’s pretty self sufficient. The access my daughter has to interactive & educational apps, games, shows is endless! We even added hulu/netflix/age restricted utube. I always thought it was insane 2 year olds had their own tablets. Until I had a 2 year old lol. It amazes me and my husband how fast they pick up on finding their favorite apps, games & shows. But we were risking damage after many drops to our tablets & they were getting bogged down with kid stuff so it was time for her own. The only thing I wish it had was a lockable volume & brightness setting (if that even exists?).

Great tablet! Has tons of educational games, videos & books. Easy set and runs smooth. My 3 year old loves it!

My son initially broke the first one he got for Christmas in 2017, it was still under warranty when my mother called amazon. They couldn’t fix it so they sent him this new fire tablet and i really love this one sooooo much better! It has a stand on it so he can eat or do w/e he wants while he’s watching his tablet & before i had to sit the old one up against something to hold it up. This new tablet comes w YouTube & mini movie and tv clips and a whole lot of upgraded features. Very fundamental. Get it for sure!!

I love this thing! I went back and forth between buying this new product vs going with the older one that already had reviews to go off of.To start, I use Apple products religiously, and this interface wasn’t too hard to figure out for me. I’m still getting used to it & how to use the parental controls – but so far, so good. I love that it has the two year guarantee on it if it were to break. That was actually my first selling point on this because I have a 1 year old that we actually got this for.I was looking for something that I would have total control over (so he couldn’t go pressing buttons and order/buy/break things on it) & this has that option! You have to enter a PIN number to get out of the child’s account.I downloaded Netflix to it & shared it to his account for long car rides. So far, we love it. I’ll update if anything changes!UPDATE: So, the battery life is great! We went on our first trip (only 2.5 hours away) the other day and the battery lasted the whole time (there and back) & still had plenty to spare. I have Netflix downloaded for him & I download episodes of his favorite shows for when WiFi wasn’t available. Worked like a charm and the car ride was easy/peazy!

I purchased this for my 3 (boy) and 7 (girl) year olds through a very attractive deal on Prime Day. Let me start by saying for the small I price I paid this item is amazing. I think I paid about $25 each with the deal and that included the case. My kids really enjoy playing with them.My older child certainly appreciates the apps like Netflix more that I manually downloaded for her since you won’t see them available on the kids’ screen but she still likes to play a lot of the games when she’s in offline mode. With age filters it shows more age appropriate content but she say her little brother playing some simple games that are geared for younger kids and even searched and downloaded those on hers. For my younger child, he has never had access to other touch screen technology so I was surprised that after the first day he pretty much had the hang of it without needing any help. It gets tough when you’re in a game and want to go back to the home screen since there is no traditional home button. There is supposed to a circle (home) and a triangle (back) that displays on the screen but as a glitch is often disappears. It’s easy to overcome- you just click the screen off and then back on and the shapes will reappear however, this is a tricky work around for younger kids and it frustrates him as he runs to me for help.VERY DURABLE! What pushed me over the line to purchase this was that Amazon will replace it if it breaks even if it’s the kids fault. My 3, almost 4, year old boy is so destructive and also throws things in a tantrum. He has already thrown this tablet a few times and dropped it other times and there has been no damage! Bonus – he doesn’t seemed deterred by having time outs and loosing TV as a punishment anymore but now that I have the tablet to take away he is much more apt to listen! I hour of punishment loosing his tablet and he magically behaves the rest of the day!I don’t have any other kid’s tablets to compare this to but I believe it is the best, and most durable, bang for your buck!

Update: I am changing my review to 5 stars! After leaving this review I received awesome customer service. They did everything very customer friendly by contacting me to rectify. This experience was exceptional. When I pre-ordered the tablet it said I would get free head phones. I did not receive the head phones. Other than that the product works well and is as expected.

I dont know what all the bad reveiws are Talking about.. I bought two of these, for my girls 2 and 4 years old and they are Amazing!! I dont allow my kids to watch youtube as it does not have proper parental controls, but this absolutely does (if you have apps that need to be controlled) This kids tablet is set up for children and I have yet to see a need to put a control on it, other then maybe screen time- time limit. It does not stall or load at an unreasonable speed, everything works well and keeps my girls engaged. I would recommend this kids fire tablet to any parent. If your a parant like me and want age appropriate content without fear.. This is the one for you and your little’s.
