9 reviews for Fire HD 8 Kids tablet, 8″ HD display, ages 3-7, 32 GB, Purple Kid-Proof Case Electronics

  1. Alyssa

We love our tablet. My son is 3 and loves all the videos and games all educational! I get to set it up to where it’s age appropriate items and I can also switch profiles to mine and do things on my profile. Pretty great device and he can play on some apps without WiFi! Bigger plus. Great purchase.

This is a decent tablet for kids. The new case with a stand is great and protects the tablet well. I also like the new usb-c charging witch is much more convenient.Just don’t expect it to be as fast as the expensive Apple IPad.

  3. Amazon Customer

I bought this for my ten-year-old who previously had the 7″ version. The 8″ is just better in every way, the slightly larger screen size, faster CPU, larger memory capacity, better battery, new built-in stand, etc. I put Minecraft on it and it’s lightning fast! He absolutely loves it! Comes with Amazon Freetime for a year, which the old one didn’t have. I like being able to pick and choose what he has access to under the parental controls as well. All-in-all a much better tablet than the 7″ version and worth the extra cost.

  4. Dewey

This product was exactly what I expected. It’s not the fastest tablet on the market but the parental control are excellent for my toddler. I set it up and love the ability to hide specific characters from her sight. I was able to set up all the content I wanted. Downloaded a few movies and apps for her relatively quickly. I was really nervous reading the recent reviews since this is a new model, but again, it exactly fits my expectations. Not something I would get for myself, but for a toddler it’s great. I haven’t used it in the car, but I’m sure it will be fine without wifi. Don’t buy this product thinking it’s comparable to an iPad because it’s not. It’s a simple table that allows parents to really monitor their child’s access which is exactly what I wanted. Also, no issues with the wifi disconnecting like others have stated.

  5. TS

My son loves his tablet he had the Gen 7 7” and we upgraded after 2 years to the gen 10 8” with a kickstand he still loves it watches lots of educational videos set a timer for the day so he doesn’t watch to much it has really helped him find his voice before the tablet he didn’t speak much the tablet with a few videos definitely helped his interactions are great his speech therapist says he is doing great now

My wife and I were looking for a solution while in the car for extended periods of time over handing our phones to our son. Now…we were steering towards and iPad but after all of the accessories it would have been 3X the price of this tablet. IMHO this is worth every penny. Just activate the hotspot on your phone and connect it via WiFi to the tablet. Easy pZ

My sons only 2 so I was skeptical if I should introduce such a thing to him, but friends and family encouraged me that its easily controlled with timers and activities and very educational an it truly is! we never allowed him to play with our phones so I expected a big learning curve and he adapted instantly! I hadn’t introduced puzzles to him yet figuring it might be too advanced and to my surprise it was as if he had done it all before! I was shocked and impressed I actually felt ashamed that a stupid tablet taught him somthing that i didnt! Theres tons of games for younger children feeding animals, cleaning up, making food, washing trucks its great! Its surprising to watch everything he knows naturally or knew already! Its easily controlled for age appropriate things and timers for weekdays and weekends. I was also able to add Netflix and Disney plus for when we’re on the go. If you make the rules clear in the beginning, i really don’t see a problem with screen use we haven’t experienced a melt down yet. Also the very 1st day he stood right on top of the screen but it wasn’t damaged at all! Hes fallen down on tile with it.. no issue and it was in a blanket that I shook out and it went flying across the room with no issue! so this thing is sturdy!! Overly protective, helicopter mom approved!!

In between the 7,8,10? I’ll go over why 8 is your best bet. Have questions?I will answer all of the common questions here on replacement, screen time program, what you can do and etc.So this isn’t our first fire tablet..we’ve had every edition they’ve ever made and watched them change and evolve over the years. I am very well acquainted with this tablet.Firstly let’s cover screen time/Amazon kids ; what is it? This not only lets you really customise parental controls BUT it turns off the apps ability to ask for money and in app purchases. Because of this I found many games that were meant to be paid for were free and or all levels where on the iPad they cost per level. It blocks the ability for it to put an add up so your kid won’t get bothered by adds every two seconds. It’s amazing. I love it. I have the newest iPad and I hate it for kids because every game on there has adds every second so you can’t get into the game and your kid needs help constantly or can’t play but one free level. I can’t do anything because my kid would constantly be upset and need help due to it popping up something on the iPad.. not on this one! Screen time blocks this so the whole game works for free. Example is sago mini games which cost on iPad and cost a lot. They’re all free on Amazon tablet. There are NO adds because they’re blocked and no in app purchases so if you click it it tries to load the payment screen but then goes straight to the level because it thinks you paid. I really love it and ultimately it’s why I bought a new fire 8,you get a whole year free and when that year is up it’s only 3 bucks and you can get either a monthly or another year subscription. Three bucks isn’t much. It is far cheaper than paying for all the games and being annoyed by them constantly running adds and keeping your kid from getting busy with the game so you can do something you need to do.The screen is great and clear and the HD content is wonderful. It’s very nice, this is as nice as my iPad. But the size is better and the cover it comes with for kids makes it safe from drops and perfect for little hands. It charges fast and the battery last. This is the perfect size. There is nothing the iPad can do that this cannot. This is just like any other tablet. Yes it can download the apps you want. The iPad sucks for kids because if they touch wrong it’ll just close the game and your kid will accidentally swipe out of it over and over. plus all the games the iPad has can’t go 20 seconds without an add that you can’t close and opens a window to try and get you to buy it. There’s no immersion for little kids on the iPad.The fire 8 doesn’t slide out of the game so your kids can actually play it and screen time prevents adds or asking for more money for bonus levels and has the games for free. There is an adult profile on here that does everything the iPad does, and a child or multiple children profiles depending on what you want. You can control what they can and can’t do on there.I prefer this for my kids over the iPad. It’s much better for them. This tablet is way nicer than the 7 which has a sort of blurry pixelated screen and is laggy and slow. The 10 is way too big and I didn’t notice any difference with the 8 and 10 in performance! Only in size which I found was huge and I didn’t like it. So we went to the 8!Replacement- if your kid breaks the tablet they will replace it over and over if it’s under warranty and most times even if it isn’t under warranty. They’re great about it. You used to get a new one when it broke but now you don’t. Now you keep the case and charger and you wait for a refurbished replacement which comes with nothing else. They have you send the broken one back so they can refurbish it for someone else. Because of this it takes ages sometimes to get replacements. When my daughters 7 broke the replacement was ordered on Dec 7 and still hadn’t arrived on Dec 26th and finally they cancelled it and reordered but it won’t be here until the 30th so instead I ordered the new 8 and it got here in two days. Replacements don’t come from the warehouse your regular items do so they have to wait for them to arrive and they take ages! Be prepared to wait and watch the tracking because I’ve found they get lost in transit a lot too. While this sucks sometimes they’re able to get it to you in a week. When it arrives it’s just the tablet and nothing else. Through refurbished it feels and looks like new because it’s been replaced inside and the screen is new so you don’t have to worry about scratches or anything. They will replace it over and over and this is great for kids. The 8 is very fast, nice, big screen but not too big. Looks wonderful and runs fast.I think it’s better than the 7 and 10. The 7 isn’t awful but it’s slow and not nearly as nice for just a little more. The 10 is just bigger and any improved features aren’t noticeable in difference to the 8. It’s too big for little kids to use.The iPad is too troublesome for kids under 7 and maybe even under 10. It’s just too problematic with its touch features closing games and every game it has is expensive and they want a subscription that’s every three days so one game is far more costly than a year of free time.I was hesitant that this wouldn’t be as nice as the iPad and it would be junk but it isn’t. It’s honestly not very different, kids don’t need the iPad. They shouldn’t have the iPad. My iPad got the charging port broken because the kids pulled it too hard off the charger. It was 300 to replace the port alone. This is great for kids of all ages and adults. It does everything you need it to do. Any apps can be downloaded. You can watch movies, read books, play games. Have zoom class and anything you want.I watch Netflix on it just fine. It’s durable and hasn’t broken even when dropped hard, even when liquid is spilled on it. It last. The battery last a long long time. You can customise the control on everything and monitor your kids if you want.Screen time unlimited is not a big deal. It’s 3 bucks, it makes games free and add free and is an amazing service. You get a solid year free. You can use parental controls without it so people saying you can’t don’t seem to know how to do it. There are many walk throughs online so google it if you need help.I personally want screen time and see that 3 bucks is cheaper than having to buy games and deal with my toddler calling me every two seconds because a game has popped an add up you can’t skip or she can’t play the game because it’s locked and wants money. Screen time prevents it from being ableTo do this. This is a great tablet that is perfect for the whole family. The 7 is cheaper and would be fine for little kids but the quality is much better on the 8 for not much more cost, it’ll last longer. This is best affordable tablet option and IMO the best option hands down even over expensive ones for kids.If this is helpful please vote it helpful below, so people can see it
