Got this Nighthawk X6 AC3200 and a NETGEAR CM1000 cable modem to replace a NETGEAR N450 cable modem/router combo, which was constantly either moving at molasses speeds or would constantly drop the signal. This new setup is superb. We have a large older home with multiple floors and extra thick plastered walls, and where our old setup would give us 30mbps the farthest away from the router on a good day, with this new setup speeds clocked in at 257mbps in the same location. Our device mix includes home security video, smart tv’s, smartphones, tablets, gaming consoles, computers and a printer. WiFi was so poor previously that some of us would just turn it off and rely on our cellular service to use the internet. Not anymore. One of the iPads is a second generation that was put away for a long time since it was so slow. Now that we’re able to designate which band to use, Internet-based apps working at top speeds now make it feel like a brand new device.

After updating our in home entertainment systems we found we were severely lacking in WIFi , so after 2 weeks research we decided on the NetGear tri ban AC3200 . After a short time to get the new 3200 up and running and about two hours to reprogram all devices all I can say is WOW !!! What a huge difference ! No more inside the house dead zones ! Plenty of signal to reach 100 ft outside without any problem ! All devices now run much faster , no more buffering while streaming ! I just wish I had updated to the 3200 sooner ! I most highly recommend !! Money well spent !

I have a ton of smart products on my existing network (about 75) and I have about a 3100 sqf house, 2 stories. My idea was to extend my coverage by adding this router and putting it upstairs closer to the back of the house while putting my ISP provided Modem/Router combo closer to the front so I could cover all of my outdoor cameras with a stronger, more consistent signal. As it turned out, the one the ISP provided did not get any stronger even though it was moved closer to the products. I tried changing those items over to the new router, as well and it made a significant difference. The Nighthawk goes from stem to stern of my house and covers everything with a nice strong signal. I was surprised. Now, all of my exterior perimeter cameras seem to work all the time, front and back. I also had some front of the house light switches and a printer that experienced frequent disconnects with the ISP combo, but now they seem to work fine. Adjusting the directable antennas really seemed to make a difference, as well, even a slight adjustment. Again, I was very surprised. I really like that it has separate bands for 5ghz and 2.4ghz. My ISP gear has one signal for both and that really doesn’t work well in my opinion. It always covered my computer with the 2.4ghz signal, even though the computer was close. There was no way I could figure out to change it. Videos would just spin at certain times during the day and there were problems with freezes during video conferencing. Those no longer occur with the Nighthawk. The 5ghz even has 2 separate bands for newer vs older products, if I understand that correctly, so I tried to connect each item to the appropriate signal. I have all my newer tv’s streaming on the 5ghz 2 and older ones on the 5ghz1. Works perfectly so I guess I got that right. My old Mac loads almost like new on the 5ghz1. Difficult to reach cams, switches etc on the 2.4ghz. It also has a guest signal that you can customize for those that don’t live with you, so I like that as well. Set up was very easy. I had to go through the router set up twice because it didn’t complete the first time for some reason, but it only took a few minutes so no biggie. So far, so good. I like it and I would recommend it to others. I have probably said too much, but I, like most probably, did not realize how much optimizing your current router by changing the channel from the ones your neighbors are on, for example, can help your signal. I always just thought that they install your internet and router and that’s it. I just assumed that they know what they are doing and give you the best possible signal. Not so. The guys that install these things know almost nothing about optimizing the network after installation and the equipment that you receive from your ISP may not even be adequate to handle the signal strength you think you have purchased. I have learned a lot about it over the last year, probably just enough to be dangerous, but even after DIY optimizing my ISP provided combo, I still had problems. This new router seems to have helped me take what I hope will be the last step in optimizing my home network.

I purchased this unit as a replacement to an older ASUS gaming router that was performing poorly on World of Warcraft and losing range on 4K streaming. Initially, I thought it was gimmicky with all the antennas and lighting. The initial setup was slightly complicated and the two sets of instructions for setup of the app did not make that any less confusing. After three resets and initializes, I just did what you normally do to connect to a router and it worked; boy, did it. The previous router was pinging at 20ms, with 150mbps DL and 15mbps UL, this unit maxes out my service with 9ms pings, 216 DL and 25 UL. The range is also double what it was previously and I can now get YouTube out in the workshop. Overall, this is an outstanding product, with a pedigree I’ve trusted and used since the 90s. There are better routers out there but this one won’t break the bank.

s a connected family with both parents working from home, we were maxing out our existing WiFi router. Too many devices and streaming content were slowing things down. We added a Peloton and that was the end of it. We did some research and found this option. Since connecting it, we have had no buffering issues on any devices and haven’t found any WiFi dead spots yet. We couldn’t be happier with our choice and it was worth the investment.

I have had four modems and routers in the last ten years. Three of them from the provider and the fourth, Netgear Nighthawk Multi-gig Speed Cable Modem Docsis 3.1 (CM1200) and Netgear Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Triband WiFi Router (R8000) which I decided to purchase myself. The reason for the changes were basically, the modems and routers from the providers did not match the speed and bandwith for which I was paying. They were slow. I was paying for 200 Mbps and only getting 47, 75, 56 100 but never 200 Mbps. I found that very annoying and felt cheated. Now, after a few weeks of daily checking the speed, it has been constant at 229, 228 every day. I love it and hope it continues that way. I will keep you updated.

I got the X6 mainly because I have existing netgear stuff and it was compatible with Circle. The setup was pretty straightforward and I had network across the house within 15 minutes of unboxing. The Circle system is the first system I have used that actually works. Screen time from Apple is a joke, and Qustodio is also really useless. Circle worked and is easy to manage and tweak as you get used to it.My house is 2 floors and a basement and I am getting decent (around 150 mbs) in the farther reaches of the basement with the router on the first floor. I will be running cat6 and/or trying an AP in the basement in the future but the out of the box results are allowing me to keep working before I get that cabling etc sorted.I’m used to the netgear admin console and while it’s a little clunky, you can administer as much as you need across the simple and advanced sections.Build quality is good, it feels sturdy and the antennae being already connected is a plus. It looks like a beetle on it’s back but it still pretty stylish and screams “expensive router”.Very happy with the purchase and pleased with the X6 performance.

I initially wanted to purchase the X6 over any other model and was waiting for a decent sale to do so. The old adage remains true – you get what you pay for.I instead (foolishly) went for a Linksys EA9300 over the X6 and from minute ONE of plugging in the EA9300 into my modem, the problems started. I spent five days working with their regular guys and their ‘advanced tech support’ team. In the time I spent with them, they couldn’t resolve very simple issues bearing multiple streams of traffic and a VPN, something that my Nighthawk R7000 could do in its sleep. Every time they called, I was asked to do a 30-90-30 reset and factory reset + reinstall the v1.0 firmware.I eventually gave up after 6 days and ate the difference in cost to get the X6. From the time the box arrived to firing it up, I was up and running in less than 5 minutes, mostly because of the time required to clear the MAC off of my cable modem. Once online and in the UI,I went and re-did all of the things that Linksys support told me to undo :* I left on SPI on IPv6 & IPv4* I re-bonded the 5GHz channels for the Smart Connect feature and high frequency signal rommaing* I didn’t create 100 rules for ingress / egress on protocol / port per device on the house (sorry 2nd consoles, you’re out in the cold)* I didn’t put my work laptop on a DMZ to get the IPSEC tunnel to ‘kind of’ work* I didn’t have to do DHCP reservation only within the specified range (imagine that)What I could do from the get-go and was the big differentiator between the EA9300 & the X6.* UPnP (universal Plug & play) just worked* I could use static IPs for certain implementations (like my server, streaming devices, and IP cameras)* I could work and watch PS Vue again* I could use both PS4s and XboxOnes in the house again (and do those kind of important things like play online, party chat, and do matchmaking)* I could spin up a VPN connection and not go into a ICMP blackhole and get null-routed after 3 minutes of inactivity* I had the range back from a router that was $250 less than the EA9300* I had a sensible UI that didn’t require pulling my hair out to navigate* Access to solid tech support if neededIn short, it’s a good reminder to be sure you know what you’re getting when you save a few bucks. It wasn’t worth the aggravation at all. If you’re on the fence, look up my review on the EA9300. If you liked the Nighthawk R7000 – you’ll fall in love with the R8000.

I bought this in 2017 now 2020 and the first one had to RMA, not sure if it was the open source software i put on there but it worked for a long time until I RMA in 2017. The next one I got was a beast. Didnt put any software on it and I reset the router every once in awhile just to get a fresh connection but I also have like 30 devices going off this thing. I am in IT and do this kind of thing and don’t understand why it is so hard to setup. I can understand if you don’t understand how to do it but it is a normal process to set this up. Keep this thing up to date and you wont have a problem, just reset it every once in awhile. Wifi signal is strong I can get it outside a decent distance. I have some dead spots in my house so you have to understand about that before you give a bad review for that. Got some solid walls in between rooms.

This router not only looks like it’s ready for sonic speed, it produces it. We pay for 100mb/s and I have consistent clocked it at 102-103mb/s. I love that this router has its own dedicated app with a speed test on it, as well as diagnostics and so much more. I’m not sure I’ll use the security features when the trial is up but they are pretty nice! I like that I can have 3 bands and can sign certain devices in to each band to prioritize speed that way or I could let the router do the work and use one login and then the router switches bands per priority speed requirements. I love that the LED lights that blink on this also have a turn off switch so guests can sleep when in the same room. Long story short if you’re looking for a router that could “send a spaceship into orbit”, this is the one. Netgear has thought of everything and then came up with a few more things just for fun. You get what you pay for and this exceeds my expectations.
