IPS Technology

IPS displays use an advanced technology which gives you extra wide viewing angles of 178/178 degree, making it possible to view the display from almost any angle. Unlike standard TN panels, IPS displays gives you remarkably crisp images with vivid colors, making it ideal not only for Photos, movies and web browsing, but also for professional applications which demand color accuracy and consistent brightness at all times.

MultiView Technology

With the ultra high resolution Philips MultiView display you can now experience a world of connectivity in a comfortable way whether at office or at home. You may want to keep an eye on the live news feed with audio in the small window, while working on your latest blog.

HDMI Ready

An HDMI-ready device has all the required hardware to accept High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) input. A HDMI cable enables high-quality digital video and audio all transmitted over a single cable from a PC or any number of AV sources (including set-top boxes, DVD players, A/V receivers and video cameras).

Flicker-free Technology

Due to the way brightness is controlled on LED-backlit screens, some users experience flicker on their screen which causes eye fatigue. Philips Flicker-free Technology applies a new solution to regulate brightness and reduce flicker for more comfortable viewing.

Arrived quick, great price, setup was effortless, appearance is generally fantastic. But I’m kinda realizing this isn’t the perfect desktop monitor for intensive coding/reading/long hours of text viewing. I was used to a 30″ 2560×1600 monitor, so small text and tiny icons aren’t new to me, but 4K is a little too much detail for a 27″ monitor. No slight on the manufacturer, the picture is gorgeous, but I’m forced to squint, move unusually close to the screen, use a lower resolution, or scale my screen – all drawbacks to me. Running it at 1440×2560 now, and it’s not bad, but I’m wasting a fine monitor’s potential. Maybe in time I’ll find the best tweaks for Windows 10, or at least my favorite IDEs, to work well at 4K, but for now I’m thinking 4K is overkill for a desktop monitor.Edit – reducing from five to three stars. Like others have mentioned, I have begun having problems getting my computer output to display when awakening from sleep mode or monitor power save mode. Fiddling with the monitor menu controls won’t help, the only answer I can find is to disconnect and reconnect the HDMI cable. Presumably powering the monitor off and on would work as well, but it has no power switch. While not fatal, this is a serious nuisance. I’ll try replacing the cable or finding a hotkey to send PC back to sleep so I can retry, but this is aggravating!Resolved awaken to black screen issue! Under power settings, advanced settings I set PCI Express Link State Power Management to Maximum power savings. The monitor now “wakes up” operational every time. Restored 5 star rating.

I was looking for an affordable 4K monitor and this one is great for the price.Pros:-4K resolution + IPS + 10-bit color from a brand I’ve at least heard of before AND less than $300–it’s the only monitor I know of with all of those-Much brighter plus much more accurate colors than my previous monitor!-Sturdy metal base-The top and side bezels of the monitor are super thin–maybe around 1 cm. The panel itself is quite thin, too-Sound output built in (NOT speakers though–see below)Cons:-Others have pointed out the lack of VESA compatibility but I personally wasn’t planning on mounting my monitor anyway. My last monitor also wasn’t VESA compatible. Either way, if it’s a must-have, look elsewhere.-If you’re hoping it has built in speakers, it does not. Like most people, however, I use my own. What it DOES have is an audio *output* port via the HDMI 2 cable, which I actually use. What this means is the audio comes from the HDMI cable that’s plugged into your video card, then you use a cable that connects the audio output from your monitor to your speakers. I personally just use an Oontz Angle sound bar speaker, which is more than enough for my needs (and sounds much better than any built in monitor speakers that I’ve ever heard).Other Thoughts:-4K is probably a little overkill for a 27″ screen, but 1) it’s a new standard for TV/etc. (as opposed to 1440p) plus I do watch movies and broadcast TV through my monitor, and 2) the main reason I got it was actually for sharp text in large spreadsheets that I put together for work, and this is rocks for that. It’s WAYYYY better than my last monitor (a 23″ 1080p HP monitor) in that regard! And 3) for things like gaming you can set the resolution to something like 1440p-It’s “only” 60 Hz–obviously; the thing is, 1) a 4K monitor pushing, say, 144 Hz is currently hundreds and hundreds of dollars more–literally. And 2) even if the monitor had the capability, virtually no video cards today could push out those types of frame rates at that resolution with today’s latest games, so no real point, at least not for a few years.-I have to admit that I myself am not a massive expert who has compared dozens of the latest high-tech monitors. I’m primarily just comparing this to my previous 1080p HP monitor, and this one blows it out of the water, so I’m happy with the purchase!

This has great clarity for spreadsheets and documents. I haven’t watched videos or played any games with it. My eyes are getting older and this 4K clarity is a must! It saved me while going through a difficult adjustment to new glasses. The size is comfortable on a 4’ wide desk and I just ordered a second one to extend my display. The thin border will not be distracting between screens. I typically split my screen into two pages so I think having this border in the middle will be fine. I will have to get used to turning my head for a full page spreadsheet. I might try three screens, as that seems like it would be the ideal configuration if my desk is big enough. The stand height is not adjustable but since it’s a tall screen I didn’t feel the need to use a riser as I have with 24”screens. Purchasing new is cheaper than refurbished and comes with the extended warranty.

First off, to those of you who are thinking to use this as a gaming monitor, that it not it’s main purpose and don’t be mad if there is ghosting when you play games. You asked for it. Second off, onto the actual review. I love this monitor and purchased as an upgrade to my older Benq RL2755hm. My older monitor had giant bezels, and was 1080p. This monitor has thin bezels that maximize the entertainment experience. It is also 4k, which is a huge plus. I was really on the fence of buying this monitor because I didn’t know if 4k was truly distinguishable from my trained eyes. It is for me. It may be because of the IPS panel, but I can honestly tell a huge difference in the sharpness of the images/videos I see on the monitor. I use it nearly 24/7 since I am a full time college student that has both on campus and online courses. (I go to Washington State University in case anyone is wondering). Another big plus of the monitor is the blue light filter, which I originally thought would be a gimmick, but ended up being a great addition with my two to four page essays I need to cram before I fall asleep, and we all know blue light does not help with those situations. To those of you that are new to 4k, make sure to go into your desktop settings and change the gpu resolution setting to 4k to experience the detail, otherwise you’ll basically be looking at a 1080p screen. Your machine does not usually automatically switch to the highest resolution available. Conclusion: This is a great monitor for someone with a budget, and for someone without a budget. I am looking forward to not have the urge to upgrade my setup for a couple more years. Thanks for reading, and I hope you found my review helpful.

This review is for the 276E8VJSB 27″ Monitor, 4K monitor. If it hadn’t been for the 4 year advance replacement warranty on these I probably never would have tried them. The name Philips didn’t invoke thoughts of quality. I have been in IT for 30+ years and remember Philips way back when and hadn’t really heard of them since. After looking over all of the 27″ 4K monitors on Amazon I finally ordered a single unit to test. I opened my “test” unit and was shocked to see a DP to DP cable as well as an HDMI cable, both thick and hefty. I attached the DP to DP to my new Dell XPS desktop and was totally blown away with the quality of this monitor. The blacks are black, the whites are white, the colors and saturation spot on. In both HD and UHD the quality of the images and videos were stunning. I ordered a second unit and received it the next day. I connected in to the HDMI on my XPS. Both monitors displayed the exact same colors, brightness and saturation. One might expect that but I can honestly say that I’ve rarely seen it occur straight out of the box. I would have to say that this set of monitors was just absolutely perfect! They do not have and did not claim to have speakers, but do have an audio out from DP or HDMI transference. IPS with excellent breadth of angular visual consistency. Excellent contrast and brightness.Amazon has a bad policy of grouping reviews for a manufacturer across many product lines. When I read reviews for this monitor I quickly noted that most reviews were for other models. Even those, people talked about sputtering displays and bad pixels. I think most “sputtering” displays are because people were using 4K displays on older computers without active cables, Bad pixels? Hardly even see those on any monitors these days.I’m so glad that I put aside the idea that I thought Philips was probably a Walmart quality monitor and that collectively the reviews on this weren’t the best (because, as I said they aren’t review of THIS monitor). I’m glad that I put aside these thoughts because after thoroughly testing this monitor I have to say that it is absolutely stunning!

I am a freelance programmer who works very long hours from a home office, and I just added this monitor to the fleet (2 UHD and 2 HD) about an hour ago. It is replacing a Sceptre 27″ UHD monitor that served me well for about 18 months (again, I work a ton, so my equipment gets much more than the average use). In comparison, this screen is much more vibrant than the Sceptre, as well as the Asus UHD monitor that sits above it; in fact, this monitor is closer to the colors, contrast, and brightness of my mobile phone and television than any computer screen I have owned in the past. The menu is easy to navigate which is another plus over just about every monitor I have owned. Other reviews have suggested mouse lag and/or the screen refusing to wake up from sleep mode, but I have not experienced any of this yet and it has had opportunity to go to sleep and come back twice since hooking it up.Settings I went with, which I will probably update later on as I make more small adjustments:Light Blue Mode: OnBrightness: 94Contrast: 50Sharpness: 50Smart Response: OffSmart Contrast: OffSmart Frame: OffGamma: 2.2Pixel Orbiting: On* Note that I am using the Display Port connection (the monitor only came with a cable for HDMI, as was to be expected)Of quick note is the stand, which looks much more elegant than my previous setup of a an ugly donut stand sitting on an old Arduino book to put it at my 6’1″ eye-level. It’s sleek, stylish, and works great as a place to sit the keyboard when, like me, you live at your desk and need to set the keyboard aside to scarf down a quick meal. All in all, even though it’s only been hooked up for an hour, I’m very happy with the purchase (fingers crossed posting this review doesn’t jinx me). Many times in the past I have purchased a monitor and felt as though I was “stuck with it” for its lifetime (*cough* Asus *cough*), but this is the first time in a long while that I have been looking forward to working on a newly purchased screen; and considering it was delivered to my house for about $250, I have zero complaints and only praise thus far.

I also purchased LG UD58 ips 4k monitor which has very similar price range, so I did side by side comparison on these two. Philips 276E8 does not have VESA mount so that could be a huge downside for monitor arm goers, but it has a few advantages over LG’s competitive model. (1) Far thinner bezel: You won’t find a 4k monitor with this thin bezel at this price point. LG mode has pretty thick bezel. (2) Image quality: Excellent. Professional reviewers on Youtube also released the results that it is better than LG u58 4k monitor. (3) Light and thin: it is thinner and lighter (4) Loudspeaker for soundI would say at this point, Feb-2019, I can say with a confidence that this is the best 4k monitor under $300. I ve purchased 3 others but this one is the best. 5 stars.

  8. David Whalen

Great for content creators. Color accuracy using sRGB setting is excellent. I get 10bit color using my Nvidia GTX 1060 graphics card on my core I-7 7700 cpu PC, when using the Display Port. HDMI 2.2 does not support 10 bit, but the 8 bit looks great. I use the HDMI cable to get Ultra HD on Netflix since Dispaly Port does not ahve HDCP 2.2, but HDMI 2.2 does. Only drawback is having to switch cables. Work using Display Port, watch 4K streaming content on HDMI. I create 4K youtube videos using my GH5 shooting in 10 bit color, so is great to actually be able to see the source footage as its supposed to be seen. Paying just over $200 for all this in 27 inches is amazing. Thin bezels. Stnads only 18 inches above desk. Compact but very well built stand. I don’t care at all about Vesa mount. And as content creator I want matte screen, not glossy as some 4k. It does not have HDR but I don’t care. I hope the Chinese Panda manufacturer is good quality. Only time will tell. My 1080p LG monitor lasted 10 years.Update: I bought a 32 UHD curved. Comparing the two the 27 is IPS and the 32 VA. 32 from side is dark and not good like IPS. But viewing the 32 direct is a great panel. The colors are as perfect as the IPS panel. I bought both of these for the srgb color and accuracy. Keeping the VA panel. The IPS better for coloring video but for viewing the VA is amazing with it’s larger 32 curve.

  9. I Know

Brilliant and accurate looking colors. Razor sharp resolution with no visible pixels or blurred fonts. Scale up or down at full resolution to make fonts larger or smaller. The LowBlue mode has 5 levels including an off mode. I leave mine on max to save my eyes from possible MD unless I have to look at a photo album. Excellent front any angle too. No speakers, in case you missed that. Remember, your computer has those! No USB upstream/downstream ports either but do you really want a monitor with those warts? No vertical mode, no swivel and no height adjust but from my perspective, you don’t need those for regular office work. It does tilt. As others have said you may need to turn down the brightness pretty low if you’re working in the dark or in low light but it’s not a problem as I see it.Zero reason to get a non-4k monitor when you can get this for such a price.

When I first set up this Phillips monitor and attached it to my 3rd Gen Apple TV, I very pleasantly surprised at the picture quality, especially considering the price. This monitor is as bright as you want it to be, and the 4K UHD resolution is immediately apparent. And as a surprise bonus, it has an audio out connection that passes through the audio from HDMI, if needed. Then I hooked it up to my mid-2015 MacBook Pro – and was promptly disappointed. I had read online to use the MBP’s HDMI port and to scale the display to 200X. While this did make the text sizing correct, the text itself looked terrible, pixelated with fuzzy areas around each letter.I dug into the display’s manual and decided to give the MBP’s Thunderbolt/DisplayPort a try with the monitor. I ordered the “AmazonBasics Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort Display Cable” (B013PWQPFS) and used it to connect the MBP’s Thunderbolt/DisplayPort to the monitor’s DisplayPort – and suddenly everything looked exceptional. Text became smooth and crisp as the MBP’s video output exactly matched the monitor’s top resolution (3840×2160), resulting in a fantastic display at a truly unbelievable price. It’s of course no competition for Apple’s high end Pro Display XDR with P3 color gamut, but for most tasks it offers astounding value for performance. In summary: if you’re going to connect to your MacBook Pro, use the Thunderbolt/DisplayPort connection, not HDMI.
