10 reviews for SAMSUNG LC49RG90SSNXZA 49-Inch CRG9 Curved Gaming Monitor, Black, QHD, 120Hz

Just got this beast of a monitor and did a full round of tests, No flicker, no light bleed, no glowing corners. Its absolutely flawless and what its expected to be without all of the previous issues! Hope everyone else has the same experience! 240hz on this super ultra wide is super ultra awesome! Will update the minute something is funky!2 Week Update:Starting to hear ticks in the panel. One of two things come to mind, Heat is causing parts in the monitor to expand and just rub against another part or glue is becoming undone. So far still flawless visually. More updates as the ticking progresses.1 Month update:Ticks n noises stopped n everything is still as great as great as day 11 Year Update (and last unless it breaks):What can I say… Its still as beautiful as ever and no separation of the panel. This amazing piece of tech has seen over 12 hours a day of use (telework/gaming/mediaconsumption) and is still performing as promised!

This monitor truly lives up to its hype. After much research and some short on hand experience with the ultra wide monitors, I have finally decided on the colossal Odyssey G9. In this long review, I will also give you guys what table mount I used which is also available on amazon, and what dp cable I used as well. I am currently running this monitor on a Asus GX701 / 2080 MaxQ.The production dates are of importance to this specific statistic. The pre-july models SHOULD come with a blue round sticker indicating QC was rechecked and the bottom portion of the box may have new tape over it. 8th and 9th digit of your serial number is used to determine the manufacturing dates in case anyone is interested. “N” Stands for 2020 and the number after “5,6,7” corresponds with the production Month which I am sure there will be more in production as the year continues. The importance of these dates is purely statistical and the primary concern for issues would be the backlight bleeding and glitching issues with Freesync on. By no means this applies to everyone who received their monitors in proper working condition but to those affected out of the pool of collected results. Normally I shy away from these but investing north of 1k has my research instincts firing on all cylinders. With that said, I would like to put it in perspective to the enthusiasts who want it laid out in easier terms.May production dates were a coin toss of near 50/50 as notified by the packaging serial number N5June production models were the most affected according to the pool of collected serial numbers and reviewers.(N6)July productions were the very least affected and research shows samsung revised their QC guidelines. (N7)So your chance of having a fully functioning / no bezel separation model for the July production dates are high and as long as the carrier delivering your package does their diligence, you will most likely be in the clear. Again the issues mentioned above are purely statistical and based on a group of reddit members. Keep in mind, negative reviews happen more quickly than those who have positive experiences with the product. I am positive that there are many positive experiences not publicized and as I am writing this, the 52 reviews on amazon is not the whole population of G9 users. My biggest issue was table size and after researching the specs, realized I will have little to no room for my keyboard and mouse pad. I decided to have a desk mounted solution which amazon carries and it has worked out perfect for me and my other ultra wide monitor without a hitch. I will be writing a review on that as well. Link for the mount here: https://www.amazon.com/WALI-Monitor-Adjustable-Capacity-GSM001XL/dp/B07NLMLLT6/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=heavy+duty+monitor+mount&qid=1601493145&sr=8-5Now for the monitor experience itself! (Finally)Holy SH! batman! The ever so small dream of being in the future like some sci fi movies you probably won’t be able to enjoy on this monitor due to it’s 32:9 aspect ratio…. well the dream is now finally a reality and it’s great! Not to say this is my first experience on an ultrawide but with the 1000r curvature, this truly is more eye pleasing and has me on the hook. Some say the angle is too aggressive but I believe the general consensus would say, you will adapt my overly critical friend. Shopping on amazon and searching for Odyssey G9 issues was never so much easier on this monitor. The initial settings Samsung has it pre-set to did cause some ghosting but with a quick search on google, the issue was solved and understood. (adjust your response time to “standard” and ghosting will be gone). I have tested functionality with free sync on looking for glitches or screen tearing which I have not been able to replicate. I may have to do further testing and more adjustments in graphical settings in an attempt to replicate some of the issues however I am starting to believe this could be due to cable choices of majority users (factory Samsung provided cables). I am by no means a cable engineer but I have done plenty of research which shows a quick cable change to a more superior put these issues to rest. HDR mode functions without a glitch, 240hz settings with freesync (in monitor options) work fine again without tearing or flickering, however I do not believe my GX701 or the 2080’s current software is capable of recognizing this monitor as a gsync monitor so further testing and updates will be provided as I dig deeper into this option filled monitor. Now the main reason why I opted for this monitor was 2 things. The curve, and future proof. This monitor is full of features where the future is headed. Upgrading the monitor would most likely be the least of my worries for any of my other future hardware changes. I mainly use my computer for productivity and I do enjoy good quality gaming such as COD / Destiny 2 which is not as demanding as some of the other games out on the market. This monitor is more or less perfect for my application and truly sets a new standard to my home office / man cave vibe. I do currently have a small hiccup but I do believe the upcoming firmware updates will take care of these issues. -Turning off the computer does not turn off the monitor. (every single monitor I have had in the past never had this issue and they were all samsung monitors on this specific laptop).****fixed**** samsung’s website has a software (not firmware) for this monitor. Installed it and everything went back to normal correcting this issue.-Gsync functionality with my current graphics card 2080 max q (laptop) does not give me the gsync functionality. (software update waiting from nvidia, and yes my laptop has a built in gsync monitor)In terms of Cable, I am currently using: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B087QJ4WHR?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share 10ft cable as my laptop sits to my left and the monitor stand base to my right. The excess is just enough (wish it was 1ft longer) for proper cable management. Conclusion:I personally have no issues with Samsung’s Odyssey G9. I have returned 1 prior to this as I purchased it from best buy and video caught the fedex driver dropping my package and the production date was N5 meaning May of this year with a blue QC sticker. I didn’t even bother opening and brought it straight back in for the return. The one I am currently reviewing is a N7 (July Production date model) and with much confidence I opened this package with a smile and am very pleased with this monitor hence my 5 star review.**UPDATE**It has been well over a month with no additional software downloads or changes to my hardware. Everything works perfectly fine. I haven’t heard any crackling noise and there is no light bleed.Added some photos to help and entertain you folks of my set up!

This monitor is amazing for gaming. I’m using a 1080ti but you need a 2080ti if you want max refresh rate with all graphics in ultra.HDR is great once you get it tweaked right. You have to run desktop at 100hz to use 10-bit color for HDR. I also had to use Nvidia color settings to get brightness back after turning on HDR in windows. The Witcher 3 looks amazing on this monitor and so does far cry 5.Turn on Freesync first then the option for Gsync will be available in nvidia control panel. If you play FPS games there is a target aim in the menus you can turn on. Even just hitting 80-90fps everything is buttery smooth. Not good for Gaming consoles it stretches and enlarges the picture to much. I hooked up my PS4 just to see the results. I haven’t tried the picture by picture yet and not sure if I will ever use it as I bought it for computer gaming only.If you want the best and you got the cash this is probably the best super/ultra wide for gaming right now. 49inch, 1440p, HDR and 120hz panel is hard to beat right now.

Almost all of these ‘bad’ reviews are from shipping flaws. Go 1 star rate UPS, or whoever broke your screen, while handling. This !onitor comes supurbly packaged, and looks absolutely incredible, when in use. Driving Sims, even with adjusted FoV, now allow me to use the mirrors & see out the side windows. Massive immersion upgrade. Zero dead pixels. Keep in mind, it’s all the unfortunate people that typically take the time to write these things. I only made this review to offset the underserved negative skew. As Samsung has created a near masterpiece with this 32:9 aspect ratio. Keep in mind: 30 or so ‘dead pixel”‘ or ‘damaged’ one star reviews, out of likely several thousand delivered without such. You will love this thing.

Plug your hdmi cable in first. Regardless of if you use displayport. Couldn’t find drivers through displayport. And had a black screen till I Google that I may need to use the hdmi first.Only other problem I had was a blue box shaped cable. Other side was a USB. No idea what that is or what it goes to. Set up doesn’t say. (edit:found out its for connecting another device. Seriously the manual doesnt mention it)Edit: added pics, triple monitor pic is for size reference. They’re three 21.5″ AOCs. Based off other user pics I expected it to fill less space then all three combined. But it filled exactly that same space.

By far the best monitor I have ever owned. There were issues with others on release date but mine had no issues. Ended up using display fusion for windows management as it’s still taking time to get used to. But picture is clear and clean. And it’s better than my former 2 side by side display setup.Edit: One small detail I just noticed is when screen is blacked out you see a reflection of light from the screen. Mildly annoying but only when screen is blacked out and lights are on behind you. Easy to manage, still fantastic.

Received this monitor a few days ago. This thing is awesome. Completely unparallelled gaming experience.I’ve read that the first few production batches had problems. I’m happy to report that the one I got in September 2020 had no dead pixels, no flickering and so far no panel separation. The HDR is amazing. I didn’t understand how HDR could change the gaming experience until I got this monitor. The lighting effects in games are so much superior in 1000 HDR it’s unreal. The refresh rate and response times are stunning. I don’t have any ability to measure them like a professional youtuber, but to my eye the picture and motion is perfect. It’s hard to understand how such a huge picture can have such a snappy experience but it does. From all of the negative talk I heard about the extreme curve, I thought I might not like the curve, but I think the it’s fine. The talk online about the curve is a bit exaggerated after experiencing it. I can’t speak for anyone but myself but I think the curve is perfect. You really don’t want a flat panel this size because you would have to turn your head from side to side to see things like the HUD.The monitor is not perfect. It’s very heavy and has a center of gravity that won’t work with any monitor arms currently on the market. Because of this you’re stuck with an enormous stand that will take up a huge portion of your desk. The monitor runs pretty hot. It radiates heat like a huge light bulb. You’ll definitely want to take this into account if you’re sensitive to that kind of thing. For anyone who is apprehensious about this montir, from the reports online, I can only speak for my own experience but my experience has been perfect. I love this monitor and I can’t wait to get home to fire up more of my games and play them with this immersive ultra-wide display. It truly is the king of monitors.

This is a huge step up from my LG 34″ 60hz 4k monitor. It has added to my games, work, and everything else imaginable. I’m 40 something so playing Fortnite is really hard with the target and my eyes loose it (maybe cause I am used to first person shooters) but the monitor has a built in “Virtual Target” where I can set it to red (other options available) which is awesome!! There is nothing on the market that compares to this. My 2080Ti Black Edition let’s me play at 144FPS constant at so what maxed out no problem. If you have a 2080ti this is a must!

I don’t leave reviews often. In fact this might be my first ever review on Amazon but I have to say this monitor stuns and amazes me every time I turn it on. Keep in mind I own another excellent monitor with the Asus PG27UQ so I have a benchmark to compare it to.First of all the colors, they are very rich and vibrant out of the box, black levels are good though not as good as the PG27UQ but that’s a given comparing a monitor with 384 local dimming zones to this which only has around 11 edge lit zones of I am not mistaken. Now this is also my first VA panel and after reading how those are very prone to ghosting I was extremely worried, however I am very happy to say that if this monitor exhibits ghosting it’s certainly not something I notice during usage and I am very picky about my displays. I once returned a display due to a tiny speck of dust being stuck on the top right corner of the monitor that you could only see on a white background. Viewing angles are definitely the panels weakness here especially compared to the IPS on my PG27UQ but given its curved design, from your typical seated position viewing angles aren’t a problem its just when you have someone next to you looking at the screen, that is where the noticeable drop in quality occurs.HDR in games is great, eye popping visuals and the added width just has you completely immersed (width not specifially related to HDR but I just love it lol). The games I have tried with HDR are the Division 2, Destiny 2, Tomb Raider, Forza Horizon 4, Metro Exodus, and Monster Hunter World. The PG27UQ does have an advantage when it comes to color reproduction and contrast in these games, but its not by a huge margin and that mainly due to the FALD system I would think.Another important mention is even though it’s not advertised this works perfectly well with Nvidia gpus and gsync. I haven’t noticed any artifacting or flickering in any games and I’ve played games that fluctuate greatly when it comes to FPS so the monitor is handling the jumps and drops very well with its active sync capabilities.I have purchased this monitor purely for gaming purposes but I must say having a screen that mimics dual 27 inchers is great for productivity.Quality control on the panel, well I can’t speak for everyone by my panel came without any dead pixels and no noticeable back light bleeding. As you can probably tell by now I absolutely recommend this monitor. This has replaced my previous ultrawide the Asus PG348Q and honestly? It’s like popping the ultra wide cherry for the first time all over again!

Be careful when ordering this monitor. It is signature upon delivery bc of the big bold box but Amazon gave it to my neighbor. Spectacular monitor. It has 2 displayports, and 1 hdmi. If you are going to use for work and not gaming you def want to run off of 1displayport & 1 hdmi. Buy DisplayPort to usbc cable & hdmi 2.1 cable. If running it off a bacbook you will need an adapter for hdmi and it will only one run screen as ur native display w/ the new m1 chip, apple has promised to update thru software. We will see. It’s perfect like that. If you use for one large display. No pbp / pip mode it is a lot of real estate to drag items from one ide of the screen to the other. You have to figure out the best setup and there are 50 ways you can set this thing up. I’m running a Mac mini 16gb m1 device on it. Usbc to Display prot 1.4 & hdmi 2.1 with an audio extractor to run audio into a Sonos play bar. Originally had a Sonos arc with it but swapped with a different tv bc splitting audio spdif was easier. There are no speakers in the monitor FYI. I wouldn’t want crappy speakers with a fantastic $2k monitor. It does put off heat when you are running it bright like all super ultra wide monitors. AVLT 43in monitor mount is by far the best monitor mount for this display and it’s only $130 I originally had an ergatron HD mount with heavy duty hinge ($500) with it and it sucked. I purchased several and No question go with the AVLT 43 in. That thing is impressive considering this monitors weight and counter balance from the curve. The monitor found of handled another 10lbs no question. There is no question that Samsung will update this monitor b4 Xmas with an external egpu and thunderbolt 3. Keep that in mind. But my plans are to buy another and stack 2 when that happens. And there is a great monitor mount for that if you google search it. Noting here on Amazon can handle 2 of these.. esp with the 1000r curve. I’m happy with it for sure. I bought 240hrz refresh rate. That was silly. Even the higher end computers can only run a display at 120hz. There a gap in technology and it will take 5yrs b4 u can efficiently run 240 unless you build your own computer. Buy it. The 1000r curve is awesome. I have a 1800 curve at work and there is a big difference.
