  1. Nookenpox

I just bought this to replace my old Nook eReader. Since I hadn’t used it in a while, I gave it away and started using my iPad Air 2 for reading ebooks. However, the iPad is bulky and, in spite of being an “Air” model, its a bit heavy to lug around. And, as with any Apple product, eventually the battery life becomes ridiculously short. This Galaxy has been a lifesaver. Because I can add extra storage, I can easily sideload a bunch of ebooks I’ve acquired over the years but haven’t had a chance to read yet. The battery life is amazing, the tablet is lightweight and, because it’s a tablet and not a reader dedicated to a single company, I have the Nook, Kindle, Kobo and Google Play apps all working well in once place so I can choose my next book from whichever library I want. I Intentionally disabled the notifications for email and did not download any social media apps or games to minimize distractions. (That’s what the iPad is for). I’m very happy with this purchase and would highly recommend this to anyone as an eReader. This was a great solution for my dedicated reading experience.

I got the 8-inch T290. If you are aware of what you are getting for your money, this tablet is worthy of five stars. No it doesn’t have the top processor speed or display resolution. It’s a budget tablet at a really good price (especially if you catch it on sale), and you get a lot of bang for your buck. The display is 1200 X 800 pixels which qualifies as HD, but not ultra HD. What counts the most when it comes to font legibility on screens is pixel density. A 1200 X 800 8-inch display has a pixel density of right at 180 pixels per inch (PPI), and that’s not too shabby. My 6th generation Kindle Paperwhite has a pixel density of just over 210 ppi, so this tablet isn’t too far from that. If small fonts are hard to read, you can scale up the fonts and size of things in the settings. The display also has good color and contrast, and is plenty bright. The blue light filter app included doesn’t offer as many options as I like, so I add one from the Google Play store. And speaking of that, with an Android tablet (and this one comes installed with Android Pie) you do have full access to Google Play store. The sound is a lot better than I expected, and that can be enhanced even more with a third party volume booster. And I find an 8-inch tablet is just the right size. A 10.1-inch tablet is too cumbersome in my opinion, and a smart phone is too small. And an 8-inch tablet like this one will fit in the back pocket of men’s pants. (But not so much if you have it in a case.) And at just 12 and a half ounces, it’s a lot lighter than a 10.1-inch tablet. So understand what you’re getting, don’t expect top of the line, but you get a good tablet for the price.

Purchased this for a severely hearing-impaired aunt (who is in her mid-90s) because of Samsung’s wonderful transcription program. The microphone is most sensitive and has a wide range. Samsung’s installed transcription program records and displays everything spoken to her so that she can participate in conversations, have her questions answered, hear Mass in church, etc. It’s her lifeline and ensures quality of life for someone who is hearing impaired. If WiFi is unavailable, the Easy Talk Lite app works well, but the Samsung app is the best. Samsung should do more to advertise this feature of its tablet.

WiFi is intermittently weak. Data speed is often 1mb or less. Data speed is better if Bluetooth is off. I don’t have this problem with my other devices. WiFi speed from provider is 100mb. Troubleshot with Samsung twice. Second time Samsung suggested I ask Amazon for replacement. I received a replacement and it has the same problem. Took both to a friends house and worked well one day. Took it back a few days later and same low data speeds. I sent the Replacement back. Other than the low wifi issue, I really like the size and storage capacity. I am keeping the tablet. I have a samsung A20 phone and a 7.0 tablet. Hope Samsung comes up with a software fix in the near future.UPDATE! PROBLEM SOLVED: REPLACED my Wireless Router with a NEW LinkSys VELOP Whole Home Mesh WiFi Router (AC 1200). My Data Rate went up to just over 100mbs. This is a single unit and all my devices are running faster (100MBs). For $79, My Problem has been solved.

Picked up two on the Treasure Truck for our kiddos to replace old 7″ Samsung tablets. I honestly wasn’t expecting much as a Tab A, but I really like these! They come automatically with 32g of storage, which is great when downloading a bunch of games and apps that hog storage. Add an SD card and you’re golden for a while. In particular was a messaging app that allows us to video chat as a family of 4 – the tablets do not have a lag even with 4 on video at the same time and show a clear picture using the front facing camera. And the battery lasts for what seems like forever – the first day with a full charge, it was used for over 4 hours (per the parental app we also downloaded) with videos and games, and still had over half of the charge. And as far as the size, you wouldn’t think going from a 7″ screen to an 8″ screen would really make a difference, but it really does. The colors are vivid and bright. I can’t speak for the tech stuff, but as a daily tablet to run games and videos and surf the internet and video chat, this really is great. I’m going to return and purchase another for myself to replace an old Nook.

IDK if Amazon will publish this review, or not, but the Tab A8 is everything the Fire HD8 wants to be. For the music aspect, the Tab A8 32 gigs of RAM. I think the Fire HD 8 tops it’s RAM at 10. Music streaming, unlike video streaming, demands a LOT of cache. The Tab A8? Can do. The Fire HD? Since I have the Fire 10″ that HAS 10Gb of RAM, I doubt that it can do. For music, the Tab A8 is as compatable as honey, and Ice Cream. It even runs Amazon music’s app better. With Amazon Fire? It’s about as compatable with music as ANCHOVIES, and Ice Cream!!! Tab A8 is a computer, Amazon Fire is a toy.

Just got this yesterday in mail… Loving this tablet so far! Im old school and have only had Nexus 7 tablets. I like the mobility and ease of 7 inch tablets.I’m not tech savvy… And tried to research good tablets as best I could. I don’t see how this tablet wouldn’t suit as a solid budget option. It’s speedy without lag as I go from email to games to video apps. You can’t go wrong getting or gifting this tablet. I’m sure there are more powerful tablets out there… But for basic needs and purposes, this is great. I’m certain the 10 inch version for $50 more would be just the same. Comes with the new Android 9.0 Pie version and you also get future updates. So if you are out of the loop on tech or perhaps an older person looking for an easy budget option… I highly recommend. Only had one day… Will provide updates.Update 12/27/19…Still no regrets with my purchase. I use this tablet daily. Tablet is still smooth and zippy. Able to handle games, movies, email, shopping, etc. Battery life is good/charges up quickly. I haven’t had any issues or complaints thus far!

This tablet is replacing a first gen Galaxy tab. It was a great tablet but time has taken it’s toll and it was time to replace it. I have a 2017 Tab A and love it so this one was for my wife. . This is a great improvement over the 2017 version. Both are running Android 9.0 smoothly. Battery life on both is amazing (we charge them 1 or 2 time a week and they see 4 to 5 hours use daily). Screens are also amazing. This tablet ups the stakes with the return of auto brightness setting and what appears to be a better camera setup (the reality of it is that both have pretty good cameras for a tablet) Samsung also did away with some of the bloatware (THANK YOU SAMSUNG!!) They got rid of that stupid Bixby home thing (I finally was able to disable it on my 2017 after the latest Android update). There is some other bloat ware that was also not included (like half a gig worth!) Speed for both is the same. Now there are some steps backward. They moved back to a micro USB charging (the 2017 had USB C) and the speakers are not as nice (in real world performance- no idea on the spec sheet). Also they removed the physical home/back/list buttons from the bezel and put a virtual back and list button on the screen space. THe home button is gone completely and you have to use the power button now (A HUGE step back!). With the buttons gone now the bottom of the tablet has this 3/4″ bezel at the bottom that does nothing but make the tablet longer than it needs to be. Bottom line this is a great tablet. It is fast, powerful and with a micro SD card installed has a ton of storage. At the current price (under 0ne hundred and twenty bucks!) it is a steal.

I see dozens of complaints of these being unbearably slow.I must have got a good one. This tablet is quick!..Got it and set it up. Disallowed or turned off all the trackback, customer improvement, error or other reporting and then went thru and deleted, disabled or Uninstalled each and every piece of bloatware and One drive or cloud based app or control on the tab. The biggest problem I’ve ever found is allowing Google, Gmail, Microsoft complete access. They all will automatically record your keystrokes, voice, location, web searches and browsing info non stop which ABSOLUTELY will slow you down to a crawl as it sends your complete life history to the cloud. Especially pictures and Facebook/Twitter/IG etc.Once done removing these intrusive programs and apps you will have a noticeably fast tablet. You don’t need a YouTube APP when you can login via your browser, same for Facebook and Netflix.. login via browser and ditch the apps and installed junk.I bought these for Drones, and of course the moment I deleted and blocked here comes a system update. Its now a speedy LED back-lit 32 GB Qualcomm quad-core 2.058 ghz speed processor with 5150mah Li-ion monster battery in it..1920×1280 full HD record 8 in screen with Gorilla Glass 3. And more storage with a 512gb micro SD card.Samsung has the best displays in middle of the road consumer devices hands down. And for 115 bucks you get one brand new! People are selling these on Craigslist and marketplace for 150?The 8.0 Tab A is a marked nd noticeable improvement over the previous generation dual core 1.7 7 inch screens…its considerably brighter display and much better graphics and color reproduction are immediately apparent…and side by side the speed difference is night and day. There is no legitimate reason to install an app for a web based provider (Amazon, Netflix, Facebook, etc) the ONLY reason they want to install that app is to be as intrusive as possible. You can go to their web pages and login just as easily, have tons of free space and a speedy tablet. The only gripe I would have is that 2 gb of ram is a bit weak for today’s devices, even my phone has 6gb…But 4gb of ram would be optimal. It would also probably almost double the price of this tablet. For the $115 price tag, Android and Samsung support and updates for a few years- yep, this is a GREAT DEAL. Buy a no name one for less and you’ll regret it…
