10 reviews for SteelSeries Arctis 7 – Lossless Wireless Gaming Headset with DTS Headphone X v2.0 Surround – for PC and PlayStation 4 – Black Clothing, Shoes & Jewelry

  1. Tech Infusion

I love this headset! I bought these after returning the Arctis 9X due to connectivity issues and I’m so glad I did. They are super comfortable. The materials used are very premium and the matte finish on the ear cups is really nice. I can wear these for hours upon hours and not get fatigue. The headband provides good support and the strap relieves tension well. The headphones clamp good enough to not fall off but not too hard.Love the Arctis design, super minimal yet very functional. Barely way anything compared to razer and Logitech headsets. Nothing to complain about.Sound quality is great, no complaints. Not the best headphones I’ve ever listened to, but still really good. I play a lot of FPS games and I have no problem hearing where other players are.If I had one complaint it’d be the microphone. It doesn’t sound amazing, but it’s better than 90% of other headsets I’ve tried. Friends can still legibly hear me, but it doesn’t sound like a large diaphragm microphone (which I’m not expecting it to). Thus I still rated these at 5 stars because it’s really not that bad of a microphone. The controls on the headset work well, I would’ve liked to have more of a tactile feel on the scroll volume wheels but they’re okay once you get used to them.Definitely recommend to anyone looking for a solid gaming headset that is super comfortable.

I returned my turtle beach wireless headset due to mic and connectivity issues and got these instead. I did an unbelievable amount of research on what gaming headset to get as I hate buying a pair I don’t end up liking and get stuck with them. There are SO many different gaming headsets nowadays it was not easy picking one to buy. This headset was everything I wanted. To keep it short and sweet, I’ll just list the pros and cons…Pros:Quality materials (no cheap creaking plastics)Very comfortable (not too tight or too loose, ear pads very soft)Great sound and dynamic range (fully adjustable in app)Quality mic (fully adjustable and retractable)Independent master volume dial2nd dial to adjust the game chat and game volume blend.Mic mute button (mic lights up red when muted)Mic monitoring is a HUGE plus. You can enable with the app so you can hear yourself talking through your mic. This helps you talk normally and not yell due to your hearing being sealed off from ambient noise. It also helps “equalize the pressure” in the ear cups which adds to comfort and minimizes ear fatigue. Without it, your ears can begin to feel weird after a while from being so isolated within the ear cups (at least for me).Great wireless range. Stayed connected even when I left the room with them on.3.5mm headphone cable included so you can plug them into your controller (in case you prefer wired connection).Rock solid battery life (power button lights up different colors to tell u what percent battery is left).Cons: None so far. Will update review if something comes up.

Wireless Headsets I went through before keeping this one: (problem from memory in parentheses)HyperX Cloud Flight – Bought/Returned (pressed ears slightly?)Corsair HS70 – Bought/Returned (pressed ears)Corsair Void Pro – Tried in-store (pressed ears)Logitech G533 – Tried in-store (clunky, harsh cups)Razer Nari – Bought/Returned (heavy)Astro A20 – Tried in-store (pressed ears)Sony Gold Wireless Headset (late 2018 updated version) – Tried in-store (pressed ears)Bluetooth aptX Headsets (we’ll get into why later if you’re interested):TaoTronics TT-BH036 – Bought/Returned (latency)Avantree HT4189 – Bought/Returned (latency, clamping force, pressed ears)Comfort:This is the most common reason I returned/did not purchase many of the previously mentioned headsets. I apparently have a very weird head. I’m super sensitive to shallow cups (ears stick out causing pain if pressed for a long time) and clamping force (big head causes headaches if squeezed for very long). Heavy headsets can still “squeeze” my head due to weight on top of my head even if they don’t have much clamping force on the sides. Due to this, I feel confident that I am as critical as it gets as far as headset comfort goes. The Arctis 7 was kept because it did not cause discomfort when wearing for many hours. There is a caveat: As it comes in the box, it has too much clamping force for me. Luckily, the headband is made out of “sheet metal” and an adjustable strap. The strap can be loosened to let the headset contact as much of the top of your head as possible (distributing weight to remove pressure points). The metal band can be bent backwards to reduce how hard it squeezes your head. I found a forum post somewhere made by an acclaimed Steelseries employee who advised this, so that is what I did, and it worked great. Just be gentle, do it a little at a time, eventually it will be perfect! There is no padding on the interior of the cups which scared me as I usually need it, but these cups do not touch my ears somehow so it is not required.Latency:This is more of a side note for the bluetooth headsets. Most everyone knows that bluetooth headsets will have higher latency than headsets with proprietary wireless transmitters. What some don’t know is that there is a variant of bluetooth protocol that aims to correct this, it is called “aptX”. To use it, both your transmitting and receiving devices must be aptX enabled. I will admit, the latency was very low for the aptX bluetooth headphones. When watching videos it was unnoticeable, however when playing an FPS, it was very very soft but it was there. Switching over to my wired headset confirmed this. If you are going for a wireless headset for gaming, you currently must get one designed for it. The Arctis 7 does not have noticeable latency, nor did any of the other gaming headsets I tried.Speaker Quality:I’m definitely not an audiophile but I have higher than average taste in sound. This headset sounds nice. I have not played with the EQ, but I may try to turn up the lows a little bit.Mic Quality:It’s wireless, and a gaming headset, so it is what it is. It seems to pick up more depth to the sound than other mics, your voice won’t sound as flat, however I suppose this comes at a cost on background noise cancellation as it seems a little more prevalent in this headset than others.Construction:This is one of the more well-built units I’ve got my hands on. Time will tell how it holds up, but the build quality seems upper-tier.Battery:I can’t comment on this, but I highly advise that you get some magnetic micro usb cables. Basically, the cable becomes two pieces. You plug a little micro usb dongle in your headset and then you can connect the corresponding cable any way around. The dongle and cable magnetically snap together. Makes plugging the headset in so easy that you won’t ever be conflicted with “should I fumble with the connector or should I skip charging for now and just do it later”. Any time I set the headset down, I charge it, because it’s super easy to do so now. Therefore I will never be able to comment on batter life.If you too are plagued by comfort issues, and maybe do not want to go wireless just yet (cost being the only reason I can think of), I would highly recommend the HyperX Cloud Silver. They’re not cheap but they are worth it. To this day they are the most comfortable headset I have ever worn, with good sound and great build quality.

Sound:Let’s get this out of the way first: These aren’t audiophile headphones. However, what you are getting is a good depth and smoothness of sound with just enough bass that you can feel the rattle when things get crazy. What you get here is a headset that’s great for music, but damn near life-changing for games – especially if you’re coming from the budget class. I highly recommend setting the equalizer software to Immersive and loading your favorite shooter. It’s worth noting that bass levels have been improved in this 2019 version over the legacy model.Comfort:As compared to the 2018 model, the 2019 release enjoys a greater standard of comfort with deep, comfortable earcups and a light profile. It’s actually pretty easy to forget that you’re wearing these, even for someone with an exceptionally large head (sorry mom) like mine.Software, driver support and functionality:In terms of the wireless capabilities, build quality and so on, these feel just as premium as the price would suggest. The driver suite (which is rather mandatory, so go get it) is lightweight and adds some decent equalizer functionality – Nothing exceptional, but it’s still a solid value add.Additionally, 7.1 surround support has been improved over last year – Setting the surround profile to Large Room produces a good depth of sound that doesn’t feel flat, making for an enjoyable music-listening experience in addition to the obvious gaming benefits. Conclusion:You’ll probably note that most of the middling reviews for this headset are for the Legacy model. As those complaints have been addressed to varying degrees, I now feel safe in calling this one of the most well-rounded wireless headsets available today – with the caveat that Bass junkies might want to look elsewhere. The bass here is just good enough to rattle your brains just a little bit, but you can tell that it’s intentionally subdued to bring it more in-line with the rest of the soundscape as compared to many other gaming headsets.

This wireless gaming headset is amazing! Initially when I first put them on, it felt really weird. I was like, wt.. there’s no way this is going to feel comfortable. Then 10mins later, I totally forgot they were even on my head. I was walking around the house, taking bathroom breaks, getting food/drinks, all the while still be on comms and able to hear what’s going on in the game. I played CS:GO and Guild Wars 2 with them, two very different games. The sound is precise, I could hear footsteps very well in CS:GO without any delays. And for the MMO the sound is deep and rich. The headset is very comfortable. I was able to play for 3 and half hours before my ears felt a bit sore. That’s when I took the headset off for a few. To be able to play for nearly 4 hours straight without feeling a thing on your head is very nice. And honestly if you play for that long, it probably is time for a lil break anyway. But really, this headset is very lightweight and comfortable. Don’t judge it based on your initial try.I don’t know why others have some issues with them. I was almost scared off by negative reviews, I’m glad I gave this a try. If you play games, you should get this.

I purchased this headset and immediately listened to music and some audio books to hear the sound. It was ‘ok’ (without the software).I installed the software from online (~125mb package) and then installed the extra 7.1 package thereafter and tuned everything how I wanted it. It is amazing.Do note: It does not keep the sound in as well as I’d like… so don’t go blaring music in your office cubicle if you have close neighbors. These are loud!I have had the razer 2.1 and the 7.1 and these beat them out great.I was able to walk around in my 2000 sq. ft. house w/o any loss.I had loss once I went outside due to the brick and metal door (not total loss, but it kept bleeping in and out).I was able to go from 1 side of the house to the other and access my kitchen / fridge without any loss or degradation. The slide out mic is a nice touch as well!Highly recommended for PC.If you’re looking for PS4 … these will be OK, but they won’t have the software enhancements 🙁

    * This is for the Arctis 7 Wireless. Don’t know why these reviews are grouped in with the Arctis 1 (?)I took a chance on these off a recommendation from a friend.3 months into daily (5-15hr/day) use so far; Hands down best headset I’ve tried, period. My favorite features:- Ear cushions & ski goggle headband: Legit light as a cloud – Feels like I’m not wearing them.- Doesn’t pull out my hair when I take them off- Can use while charging- Balance chat (Discord, etc) and other audio (spotify, gaming, etc) from the dial: EASILY turn voices up or game audio down or vice versa when gaming gets intense.- Unisex + minimalist look. Go from gaming to a virtual meeting, EZ.- Clearest mic quality I’ve had – works for gaming, streaming, meetings, etc.- Flexible mic- On-ear mute button + Mic lights up red when muted, which I appreciate for a) indicating on a video call that I am muted, or b) confirming to myself that I am indeed muted before I wear my headset to the bathroom…- Lay flat or on a hookTLDR: Features I need + Features I didn’t know I needed that I need. A+ 100% 10/10 headset. No complaints.

So first off… I can’t comment on battery life, but it’s advertised 24 hours without charge? So if that’s true… 5 star, but 4 star until tested.Otherwise, simply 5 star. The fit is AMAZING. I have a big head… most headset are OK, but never really TRULY perfect… these are so soft, and at the same time incredibly snug around my big ol ears.Sound quality (tested mostly on PS4) is great. Compared to my G430 Logitech, insane. AND… 100% wireless on PS4 & PC. XBOX i think still needs a cable to the controller (peasants) but us Sony boys… pure… cord free… sound. And with the most recent firmware update, volume is a non issue. Max volume on PS4 = a comfortable 50% on the headset dial volume control.PC offers the 7.1 software control that i’ve yet to test, but if my $35 off brand Sentey’s can do it, I’m sure Arctis will deliver.Hands down the best thing I’ve ever had to date. For PC & PS4, this is 110% worth every cent I spent.Comfort, Quality, Sound, Compatibility… all 5*.

My Logitech G930’s (second pair) finally broke (that yoke that always breaks). Over the years, my sons and I have had probably 5 pairs. My oldest son’s broke and Logitech sent him a set of G533’s – which were garbage. They were too tight on our head (led to headaches) and they just didn’t have good sound. The 930’s were so volume limited, they were never loud enough once you had “modern” drivers. So when I needed new WIRELESS headphones, I started looking at SteelSeries and bought the Arctis 7s, as they have been highly rated. First, they are PLENTY loud (I find I’m turning them down more). Second, they are comfortable. Once you do a little tweaking with the software, they sound great (they are a bit boomy out of the box) and the mic, which doesn’t sound as good in the tests on YouTube is really not bad at all. Navigation and controls are all very good – you can pretty much set everything by feel. There’s no RGB (YAY) which you can’t see anyway – so why chew your battery up? One hint that is very useful is to get a magnetic micro usb cable – makes charging the headphones a snap (look for: NetDot 2 Pack 2nd Generation 6.6ft USB Fast Charging Magnetic Micro USB Cable with LED Indicator Compatible with Android Device (6.6 feet/2 Black) ). They do work with anything that has an audio jack (1/8 or 3.5mm, I think, like an older iPhone) but then they aren’t wireless then. You can plug them in to an XBox controller. Oh and SteelSeries even seems to have a more robust Yoke (connection from headband to the ear cups) than the Logitechs… Time will tell. In the meantime – I’d have no problem recommending the Arctis 7s for gaming, music or general listening.

I had to give these things some time before I wrote a review. I have had several turtle beach headsets over the past couple years. And they all broke within the time I have had these Arctis 7.The physical build quality is beyond any headset I have ever had. I have gone through three sets of Sony ps4 (2 gold, 1 platinum) headsets in a year. All broke at the foldable hinges. I went through 5 turtle beach headsets (4 600 stealth, 1 elite pro) in 2 years. All broke at the cheap plastic extensions. Yes, including the elite pros. The Arctis 7 is made of metal. Even the rotating cups have metal hinges! These things are solid. I game a lot. I mean a LOT. And the metal frame hasn’t even lost its grip on my head. The elastic headband is comfortable and adjustable. I have a larger than average head and they still fit me perfectly. Super comfortable for extended gaming sessions.I didn’t believe the battery life until I got them fully charged and ran a 13 hour marathon one night. The next day they still have a good 5 hour charge left. So the battery life is no joke. Even after running them all the way down, the recharge time only took a few hours. Can’t really remember how long exactly. It wasn’t terribly long.Sound quality isn’t what I’m used to hearing however. The mids and highs are good, the bass is very flat. I wish they had a lot more oomph to them. I might be able to get more out of them through the equalizer. In order to use the equalizer you have to connect the arctis 7 to a PC or laptop and install the program. It’s a simple program to use too. Be aware however, the DTS 7.1 setup is only compatible with PC, not ps4. There is virtually no noise cancellation. The foam around the ears is reasonable but not the greatest at shutting down outside sound. The microphone is very quiet. I had to turn up my mic level nearly all the way for anyone to hear me. And even then I still have to talk louder than I prefer. The range of the wireless receiver is awesome. I can go into my bedroom behind the wall and not lose connection at all. No wire connection to your game controller for microphone use either. Simple plug and play. I did have to change my sound/devices settings on my ps4 to all audio in order to get any sound. So you won’t have any sound on your television unless you change it back to chat audio even with the headset shutoff.Overall I love this headset. The sound quality could be better for the price, but they are so comfortable and the super solid build quality wins my approval. If anything happened to these, I would buy another set no questions asked.
