If you are anything like me, you never wanted to spend above $100 for home networking, both wired and wirless combined.I’ve tried a slew of different brands across the years, LinkSys, Buffalo, TP-Link, D-Link to name a few, and let’s not forget the supplied ISP router/modems.Had to restart routers countless times to solve connection issues, most of those issues were WiFi, a few where wired. That’s just to say, I’ve spent many hundreds of $ just to be frustrated. That’s why I was skeptical of what feels like fandom for Ubiquiti and the UniFi brand. After setting up my network with UniFi (UAC-AC-PRO $142; USG $132; US-8-150W $192), this is the most expensive network I’ve setup for myself by far (at least x3 I’ve ever thought I’ll spend), so this has better be GOOD. Good enough will not cut it.It is PERFECT!The single UAP-AC-PRO provides complete (and consostent) coverage to my 2700sqft single story home, even though it’s located in a corner of the house and not the center (I am planning to move it though, to allow better signal in the back yard).Since the installation I did not need to restart the system, except for the occasionall firmware upgrades. It took some time to get used to the way control is handled, I installed my controller on as a Home-Assitant add-on.But now it makes so much sense.I cannot recomment this one enough. As for the price? I think that once you sum up the equipment you’ve bought along the years, when you compare it to this – the Ubiquiti will outlast any of these combined.

Before buying this WAP, I had been using Netgear. When my last netgear died, the replacement could not be properly configured. Then I tried a TP-Link. Their router could not be configured and was not supported in my environment – I have switches.A friend was using these and I decided to the it. Although not clearly stated, it came with the POE injector. When it arrived, I plugged it in and fumbled a bit with the app and how to use it. Once I ‘accepted’ the WAP, it just did it’s own thing and was online and fully functional in under 10 minutes. I did not have to futz with it, jump through a lot of configuration or perform a factory reset. It simply worked. The speed has been excellent. I could not be more pleased. If the software was documented, then it would have gotten 5 stars for the install.Totally worth it and WAY LESS hassle/problem than the others.

This is the 3rd one I’ve purchased over quite a few years. I have them all in a mesh network spread out over multiple buildings. They work great. The controller software will run on pretty much any machine and is easy to set up. You don’t need the controller running all the time, just when you want to make changes, review logs or perform updates. Firmware updates are super easy. These are very reliable. I’ve never had to call support so I can’t speak to the quality of tech support. I’m a network engineer by trade. I also ended up purchasing their security appliance too and it all works great together.

My unit came with an adaptor for Power over Ethernet which I was delighted about. Once connected to my LAN via hardwire, I hoped I could just point my browser to the Access Point and away I go but it seems you must use the UniFi tool application.I followed instructions to install via the UniFi application. Downloaded to my Mac but wouldn’t install because the download was not “signed” correctly, error message said something like “Security error, contact the developer”. After searching around realized had to change the default settings on my Mac to allow it to install such a wrongly signed download. Once that installed it would not run, after more searching, turns out I had to install a free Java JDK runtime which of course is a totally ancient download from Oracle. Then the UniFi app worked and I could easily configure the device. However, after logging out of the tool with the login/password I had chosen, I could NOT log back in. More searching, found that the tool changed the login name I configured to use an upper case first letter (eg, I configured “admin” but the tool changed it to “Admin” [!]). OK then I could log back in.I have to admit once I figured all that out, the actual WiFi coverage, rates, compatibility, and so on, were AMAZING, I have never had such a good Access Point. I have a huge house and one AP covers it ALL. SO awesome on that part!I realize it’s not a consumer product and most network techs would be fine with this mess of an install but really people?

When I ordered it through Amazon, I received a unit with a board revision of 31, so new-ish. The install was a snap, and I think that I could have used the existing bracket from the old Unifi AP but I liked the new one better. I switched the port on my Unifi switch to 802.11af PoE instead of the passive PoE that the old AP used and it started right up when I plugged it in. Performance and reliability is in line with what I expected from Ubiquiti. It’s used in a home with about 40 devices connected, likely over-powered for my needs, in conjunction with a Unifi AC LR. Coverage is excellent and I’m very happy with the device and will soon forget that it even exists since it’s so reliable.I’ve added a photo of the unit mounted in the ceiling of my closet. The LED ring is kind of bright but that can be turned off in the controller if it would be bothersome.

Outperforms every standalone WIFI AP I have ever owned. I decided to use this in our RV since I was upgrading all of the networking infrastructure anyways. So, this seamlessly integrated into my existing UniFi setup. I have three TV’s, a PS4, 4 tablets, 2 phones, and 3 raspberry pi’s. Everything in the RV is now connected with maximum throughput based on the end device limitations and not the AP limitations. This is a huge victory and everyone in the camper can stream on full-blast all the time. If I had to do it again, I would consider the AC-HD model, but the AC-PRO meshed perfectly with the AC-MESH-PRO with the same number of MIMO streams.

My home network is ALL Ubiquiti. The problem is the construction of my house, Its a two story with a basement and the construction is cinder block and brick and the floors and ceilings are concrete so it’s not that WiFi friendly. I have an AP on each floor in the house but now that summer is here we are spending more time out in the yard, the problem with this is that although we get signal its pretty tame and my google home speaker needs to be in the right spot otherwise it won’t work to well and cuts out. Got this AP and ran another line to it under an awning as recommended and its awesome. Even on low power anywhere in my yard. I am looking forward to making it full power and see just how far I can get… 😉

I work for an IT company and have done quite a few wireless deployments with a few different setups (Watchguard, Ubiquiti, Ruckus, Meraki), in terms of a home, small business or even medium business setup, Ubiquiti is a no brainer. Their equipment just works, it works well and gives you plenty of options to do your configurations however you want, their equipment works together extremely well with excellent logging / information to help you hone your setup if you know what the options do. They provide excellent documentation on their site to help you delve further in on their products and they come out with new offerings at a blistering pace. The Ubiquiti AC Pro is one of the hallmark Access Points, they have some others but honestly I wouldn’t waste time with anything lower then this, it’s just too good for the price difference. I’ve deployed hundreds of these and am never disappointed, I use them in my own house and my own mother’s house. I don’t think for the price that anything even comes close, naturally if money is no object there is better stuff out there but at this price point, without the subscription fees, these things are gold.

I use a lot of UBNT hardware. For most of my customers I had standardized on the UAP AC Pro due to 1)price for features 2)reliability 3)coverage area 4)ability to handle many, many clients at once, nad 5)great throughput. UniFi radios are great, and you see them everywhere for a reason. Considerable improvement in automatic handoff speed as you walk from one AP coverage to another (over previous models)

I have installed several of these in my house and work and they are the best WAP I have ever used. HOWEVER the first two took me FOREVER to connect to my UDM Pro. If you are using these with a controller like the UDM or UDM pro DO NOT USE THE PHONE APP TO SET UP! Just plug them in to the controller and set up from the controller’s web admin. If you use the app they will never adopt and never connect to the controller. They will still work but just will not adapt/connect so you can not control them from the controller. If you are using them without a controller then use the phone app.
